Y'all keep inspiring me to explore more and more of those things I love.

I've picked up a lot of things more recently and am even halfway through knitting (thanks to inspiration via @Sita!) a blanket for someone which I have never done!

One thing still on my list is that I was designing my own clothes when all of this happened and I haven't even been able to open the door to my little sewing studio (a walk in closet! ha ha!) since then - my body has changed so much since then so that provides an additional challenge since I would have to start from the beginning with the pattern creation.
BUTTTT, I have so many beautiful fabrics to experiment with- maybe today will at least just get out one of the fabrics after work and little by little at least dream a bit more about it all.

  • Thoughtful gifts sent from my mother (somehow she found something that is exactly what I was looking for!)
  • Brussels Sprouts (odd one, yeah, but man, I love Brussels sprouts - ha ha)
  • Creative Ideas
  • Revisiting planning for fun monthly "experiments"
  • Resources like Archive.org that provide access to so much wisdom (love looking at books from different eras!)

BTW - Looked this color up - love this it. Maybe you can do one little patch of painting at a time, almost like putting together a puzzle -- with some good music in the background - to build the momentum. I know starting a painting project is sometimes a whole project in and of itself!

Oh, there is so much available on the site... I went down a rabbit hole of books from the 1800's learning about ornamental drawing (did a fun experiment once where I did a drawing a day for 100 days and these books provided so much inspiration). Also looking at clothing design from past eras. So. Many. Books. and resources. Fun to explore. A lot of books can be downloaded in .pdf.

Phone call from my friend in Michigan. We chatted for ages. We have a 12 hour time difference which makes it more special.

Made an Indian sweet - Almond barfi. Yummy.
Didn't have to wait long at my mom's podiatry appointment.
Coffee morning with a dog friend.

Today I am thankful for:
  • A restful nap / reset for the day
  • Spontaneous drive to a place further than I have been in 2 years! (feeling really icky today but jumped in the car and went to the place I needed to go and back before I could overthink it...def. needed the nap upon return though)
  • Once again.... another chance to try again
  • Grace
  • All these reminders that things can and do get better

Love those opportunities to connect with friends and the amazing long chats! Seems like these happen less and less frequently these days (with all of the texting taking its place), but when the they do, it is such a pleasant gift.

Connecting with friends, hearing the sound of their voice & having a proper catch up is truly wonderful. Thank God for free Whatsapp calls.
 
Today I am thankful for:
  • Indoor plumbing (fascinated to think about all the systems that have to work for this to happen with every single day) and all the people that keep it working
  • Interesting genealogical research and finding out so much about my ancestry
  • Starting to feel glimmers of a sense of purpose again
  • Reconnecting with my niece after my being a bit out of touch this past year and being able to engage with her in a fun activity that we will do virtually
  • Soothing nature of dry brushing
 
Today I am thankful for:
  • Learning a new skill that was necessary as a result of a little mistake in my adventure back into knitting
  • Creative project a friend asked me to help out with
  • My phone and ability to connect with people thousands of miles away
  • Patience (still practicing, practicing, practicing)
  • Reading glasses
 
I'm thankful for:
- being able to clean my home...it was not easy, I had to make an effort...It usually takes me 2-3 days;
- for the backyard that I have here. It's wonderful and I can spend time outside, knitting and reading and doing cross stitch.

(I posted two more sweaters for men in my Etsy shop...if anyone is interested in seeing them. My own design. For people who are into knitting...I think they look pretty good but of course... I made them...so what can I say...ha ha.)

Okay, I may have to try that - there are plenty of recipes for it and I always like to have blanched almond flour on hand.

I've been making halva lately - with tahini - which I really love plus it's even easier to make than the barfi (no kneading or rolling, but otherwise quite similar). Then not long ago I decided on a whim to look up "peanut butter halva" and OMG - it's just like the inside of a Reese's peanut butter cup (plus you can spread melted chocolate on top :joyful:). It's just two ingredients - home-made sugar syrup boiled to 250F and smooth salted peanut butter mixed in then patted down into a pan. Chocolate on top if you want it (or maybe just mix in some chocolate chips and call it good).

I don't actually make halva very often because of the high proportion of sugar vs the healthy stuff... but in the realm of what has recently made me happy, that's my submission on behalf of anyone who's addicted to Reese's ;)

Actually Jan Im wondering if your halva & my barfi are the same thing.

The recipe I used is so simple & requires just 5 ingredients. I only had 4 so I left out the saffron. I'm posting the link. The 2 cups of sugar for 2 cups of almonds are way too much. I used just 1 & it was plenty sweet. I made my own almond meal but didn't bother to sift like they do in the recipe as I like the grainy feel of the barfi. You can make cashew nut barfi using the same recipe which is nicer as the cashew nuts have a creamier texture to them.

I make allowances for Indian sweets. I have a very weak spot for them. Since I don't use much sugar in my normal diet I indulge & nibble slowly on one piece every night after dinner. It makes me very happy .

I will definitely try your peanut butter halva.

Hi Sita. Well done on the cleaning.

So lovely to have space to sit outside. Its a real luxury in our part of the world.

Would love to see the sweaters you made. Is there a link?
