Section from the TMS Recovery Program: Reframe the Meaning of the Pain


Journaling
Make a list of fear thoughts that you commonly have (these can be very specific thoughts or more general ideas). One at a time, read each fear thought followed by an item from your evidence sheet. As you read your TMS evidence, destroy the fear thoughts however feels best you for you (cross off the fear thought, crumple up the paper and throw it in the trash, slowly shred it to tiny pieces). During the exercise remind yourself that these fearful thoughts are actually reinforcing your pain.
