"Thoughts" are not you. They are involuntary and pop in and out of our brain. I listened to a Curable class last night from Alec Kassin. His talk was about the subconscious and the conscious. It was a great talk. This was the first time I really understood what the subconscious is.
He likened the conscious brain as play on a stage. You can see the show and who is in it. The subconscious is what is behind the scenes in that play. From the seats, you can't see what is happening backstage-but things are happening. Lights, sounds, costume changes, etc. That is what our subconscious brain is like. It's constantly moving and looking for threats of danger.
Your thoughts can pop up from the subconscious and it is your job to stand up and say "I am not my thoughts." Or "This is not true."
Like 'what if i ever get light sensitive too and i cant do any tms work anymore and i cant get better?
This thought is a common TMS thought. Maybe you won't get better.
But maybe you will get better. You don't know your future so you need to tell your brain that you are going to live in the present. And what are you going to do right now to make yourself feel a little bit better? (not in terms of symptom relief but just by feeling safe.)
These are all things I deal with too. I just wanted to share this with you. This talk about our subconscious being the backstage of a play just really clicked with me and helped me understand this just a little bit more. These are things I tell myself when a thought pops up that wants to scare me or question TMS and recovery.
