Is repression of emotions really the issue?

But did any of them make their theories useful? Did they educate people that their pain was not physical so they don't have to be afraid of activity and so forth? Others may have hinted at theories, but did they make it practical? I think Dr. Sarno was pretty groundbreaking.

Is repression of emotions really the issue?

Actually, Dr. Sarno says it is for keeping the repressed emotions from coming out, which keeps you from feeling them. So it's the same thing. You have a good point about does it really matter either way. Unless one is a researcher and wants to discover the minutiae. But for us end users, I...

Is repression of emotions really the issue?

My point is that no matter where the tension comes from (even if it comes from repressed anger, as Dr. Sarno said), maybe it is simply the tension that causes the pain, period. Why leap from there to saying that it is a means of keeping the anger repressed? The anger, fear, obsessions, need to...

Is repression of emotions really the issue?

In a nutshell, Dr. Sarno says that our brains cause less blood supply to a certain area, reducing oxygen to those areas, which is the cause of the pain, and that the purpose of this is to keep the emotions repressed. He says that tension causes this. But why does this require repressed...

New Program Day 11: Pain Reprocessing

Sounds great for you. Congrats. It seems like this kind of thing works for a lot of people, but sadly not me. What am I doing wrong? When I go walking or sit longer than usual, ignoring the pain and telling myself what I'm doing is safe, the pain ALWAYS gets worse. Much worse sometimes.

    Online therapist

Thanks for the reminder to read pp. 142-145 every day. One thing I'm not clear on that he prescribed on page 143 is #2. What exactly does he mean we should review every morning and evening? Does he mean make the lists and write essays? How can you do that every day? In one or two days my list...

New Program Day 14: Fostering Empowerment

An age old solution is more exercise. But maybe you've tried that. Sometimes I take a half dose of Advil PM which helps a lot! I know these two aren't TMS related, but just thought from one insomniac to another I'd throw those out there.

The need to cure psychological issues

Andy, thanks, and yes it makes sense. But it doesn't seem to be working. I honestly don't know what to DO about it. I inquire, I'm convinced it isn't physical, and the pain continues unabated. According to what I've read, with many symptom imperatives (which I have), one must have a lot of deep...

The need to cure psychological issues

Hi, If I have insight into the psychological issues that bother me in life, don't I have to "cure" them, get over them, before the pain ceases? Otherwise if those issues are still there, why wouldn't the pain still exist to distract me from the issues? Psychological issues are not easily gotten...

Pain gets worse when trying to ignore it

Thanks Kozas. I'll give that a shot! Sounds good.

Pain gets worse when trying to ignore it

If I'm supposed to ignore my pain and push forward, what do I do when I do that by going beyond what I would normally do due to the pain, and the pain gets much worse? Keep going even when the pain gets worse and worse to the point where I'm bedridden? Thanks.

New Program Day 19: Extinction Bursts

This is Day 19. Where do I find all the other days? Thanks.
