SIRPA
The Stress Illness Recovery Practitioner's Association (SIRPA) is based in the United Kingdom and seeks to train medical and mental health professionals, plus coaches, who wish to work within the TMS/PPD field. SIRPA was created by Chartered Physiotherapist, Georgie Oldfield, who began her work with TMS/PPD in 2007, and Dave Clarke MD, who is the author of They Can't Find Anything Wrong and board member of the Psychophysiologic Disorders Association offers his services as International Clinical Advisor.
SIRPA was officially launched on October 9, 2010 at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge University. Both Georgie Oldfield and Dave Clarke spoke at the launch and discussed their experiences treating patients with TMS and the direction of the organization. All medical and mental health professionals, the media, and the general public were invited to attend the free of charge launch.
[edit] SIRPA Practitioner Training Program
The practitioner training program consists of an intensive 4 day program followed by a final day of training 6 - 12 months later when personal case studies etc can be discussed and evidence of a more indepth working knowledge demonstrated. The program is open to regulated medical and mental health practitioner's, plus recently has been opened up to include well regulated coaches and complementary therapists too. The program combines lectures, role playing, and experiential work, along with discussions with individuals who have overcome PPD.
After the intensive 4 day program, participants are offered personal support from Georgie Oldfield and peer support via the new forum on the SIRPAuk.com website.
Following the training the Practitioners are encouraged to integrate and develop the SIRPA approach to patients with TMS/PPD conditions alongside their own professional skills where appropriate.
