Conditioning

[edit] Introduction

TMS sufferers can develop specific patterns of pain which are programmed reactions. Breaking into this 'event<->reaction <-> pain' progression can prevent pain.

[edit] Discussion

Just as Pavlov conditioned his laboratory dogs to drool at the sound of a bell without the proper stimulus, ie food, so we can develop subconscious reactions automatically to unrecognized stimuli.

Common triggers for people with TMS are "the wrong type of chair/bed", pain on walking or pain on waking up, sitting for long periods/ driving, or using the computer.
