Thanks a lot guys. I'm much calmer. I also feel resentment to the holistic dentistry mafia of the root canal tooth fear. They scared me a lot with it.

One thing that I don't understand is, why the type of pain that I have is so scary? I used to have back pain, when I was studying, but it wasn't as scary as feeling these burns, and also, why does the brain produces your symptom if you let your mind process the thought?

The other day I was watching a video, about a guy "cured" from TMS. He was being interviewed by Dan, but then he confessed that the day before the interview, he thought about it's TMS symptom and the symptom return again. Why? Why does the brain reproduces symptoms that are unease to deal with? Is it just a matter of releasing these emotions? It seems sadistic. Sometimes it seem like a bad habit, such as when you have a nervous tic. In the 16 years I was pain free, I remember feeling these burns sporadically, and then thinking it to myself it was related to WiFi radiation, and they went away immediately. I dint fear them. I wish I still believed that sometimes it is handy to have an scapegoat.

We don't have the best answer yet. fMRIs are slowly getting more used, and good research is really hard to be done, given all the variables.

Right now you'll get a lot of different answers which will bring frustration and confusion.

For now, stick to the basics. It's some sort of glitch that keeps your limbic system in danger mode.

okay Filipe, I’m going to spell it out, because I don’t think you’re understanding what I’m Implying. Your own words in a post a few weeks ago explains how your wife got cancer, and against your better wishes, got conventional treatment and thankfully survived. You admit to resenting her for this, so a rift was created which led to the end of the marriage. You prioritized your own incorrect view ( yes your view on cancer is objectively incorrect) and your ego over a relationship. I’ve been exactly where you were. My point is that you still prioritize holding on so tightly to things and views that do nothing for you. I only mention this because you brought up Covid and judging your friends who were scared during a tumultuous time, as well as earlier threads regarding your views and relationships with women. This is a much bigger issue than TMS. This is you being dragged around on a leash by your ego. I for one am really worried about microplastics nanoplastics and pfas. I dont want them in my balls and i dont want to be infertile. At a certain point however, youve done all you can. I could go to a restaurant and worry about the plastic cutting boards, or the non stick pans or whatever else. When my mom bakes me a cake will i worry about the baking tray? Will I ever allow myself to enjoy anything?

It serves as a distraction, its just like tms in that sense. When i used to talk with these conspiracy people one thing was so clear to me; they were stuck in their head all the time. They werent feeling their body. When i was talking to them i could feel the disconnection. Go to the beach, take off your shoes. Allow yourself to feel your feet, to feel the ground, to connect with the earth. Actually take time to really feel your body. Get out of your head.

Filipe, I’m not remotely upset. I’m trying to get you to see the clear dysfunction here. You’re clinging to this quite frankly, fringe and absurd idea because to accept that you may be wrong here would be quite overwhelming. This idea sounds like it cost you your marriage. We all make mistakes, we all have errors in judgement. But you need to let go of these views and actually feel the associated emotions and regrets that these views have caused.

As Mani said, these thoughts and obsessions are distractions from larger problems beneath the surface. Which I imagine are, but not limited to, profound sadness and regret at the loss of this relationship. Your present loneliness is directly related to this.

Dr. Sarno's book title "The Divided Mind" is on many levels a play on words. Psychologically things like "I am a sensitive guy" and anger don't seem to make sense together in one mind the way society defines "Sensitive guy", does it.
Learning to accept that one can be sensitive AND angry and feel both as sensations in the body is a challenge, but it can be learned. The thoughts of others, the things said to us and we think about, we often accept as "belief". Doing the TMS work such as journaling helps us not only emotionally, but can help us sorting out our real truth by sussing out the things we have learned vs. the things that are true in life and we can then be more confident in our beliefs and trust that are values are unwavering even if they are not acceptable to others around us or the things we have been told.
In Western Society we are often told that death is to be feared because we don't understand where we go afterwards. Sometimes we are told that we should fear God's judgement in death (consider what man feels as judgement might be more societal constructs to keep us in line than what is spiritually ahead of us), sometimes we are told there is nothing afterwards - it is the end, sometimes we feel there is a great "unknown". All of these ideas lead to a lack of control on our part. We can't control what is going to happen to us, we can't control when it will happen either. There are other religions and societies that don't hold those similar thoughts or beliefs (some Western, some not) or at least the fear of lack of control attached to them. What I have witnessed is that those close to death often let go of all of these notions. They know that they can not control the process - their peace often begins when a loved one gives them permission to go, and move on from this world.

Can you give yourself permission to stop obsessing and focusing on death, and instead focus on living life. Pre-grieving is a real mental and emotional thing, but over time we can work through those thoughts and perhaps beliefs associated with death such as suffering etc. and open up our minds to become more spiritually free from such constraints.

Dr. Sarno talks about personality traits - and I suggest you read these passages once again and get a deeper understanding of where you fall within these traits and how you hold so tightly to try and control things that are often not tangible things within your control. Black and White Thinking, Legalism, Perfectionism are all traits that have us trying to control the uncontrollable (which includes other people).

With doing the TMS emotional work comes the emotional maturity that brings more peace of mind. We often didn't have parents who were able to teach us the skills of emotional maturity - this is our opportunity. Opportunity is a wonderful mindset to adopt vs. a feeling of woe and self-victimization. You are not the victim of being a sensitive person, being sensitive is a wonderful, humanistic trait that is often so lacking in this world.

Oh, Cactus, this is a reallllly good post. From the explanation of the divided mind to the giving oneself permission to stop obsessing on death to the trying to control the uncontrollable and the positive opportunity to understand and grow from all of it. These are all wonderful reminders for all of us.

Your memory and will is stronger than that - don't let yourself think otherwise. The knowledge can't disappear unless you choose to believe something else. Most of the things you listed have nothing to do with doubting Sarno and mindbody principles.

This thread has been some compelling reading. I see myself reflected in a lot of this actually - I am prone to alot of behavior shown here, and as most of you are saying, it is not healthy behavior.

- Getting annoyed at media (i.e. nearly all the primary electronic media) that has a clear bias politically and are pushing certain messaging and agenda.
- When they're not pushing messaging, they are definitely pushing a fear/outrage agenda. Notice the first 5min of the Today show everyday is almost all fear-based (weather catastrophes, new viruses, wars, horrible murders/child-abuse, etc) - but this is simply because fear SELLS. They know that people stop and pay attention to this stuff - just like people stop and pay attention to a train wreck.
- Compulsion to correct others, who I see as obviously wrong at worst and naive at best, usually online. This is related to my ego I think.
- Compulsion to judge others for their opinions or choices - feeling a strong sense that "justice" needs to be served on people that I perceive negatively (legit or no). Again, ego.

There is plenty more, but the point is that these dark places our mind go can take over our lives, and our interactions with others, and ruin all of it. I believe that people that are more "TMS prone" are even worse at these aspects (the 2 being surely related) - as some people just let all of the above float by. Sure, some may be naive and not notice these things but I believe that most actually do and they're not bothered by them like "we" might be. Just like most might have niggling pains here and there but they don't blossom into full blown TMS chronic pains.

I always thought that, had the X-Files been like real-life, Fox Mulder would've been wracked with TMS issues. Or maybe he is just the rare unicorn that can be obsessive and conspiracy prone without falling into the TMS trap. I'm not so lucky and I wrestle with all of this all the time.
