Dr. Hanscom's Blog Dr. Hanscom on Anger

On that note, I'm normally a passive person, My fight flight fawn or freeze response is usually fawn or freeze.

With that said, I have learned two things concerning anger that I am not comfortable with:

1) I have found when I am angry, other people actually respect me. As a codependent, I'm used to not being believed. When I make a request, people generally ignore me. During my anger, everyone does exactly what I want. I do not like that it works this way.

2) I have found anger is a profound motivator. I do not like that this seems to be the case.

I do not want to say my life has been improved by embracing my anger, but I feel more in control and engaging when I am angry.

I have a history of withholding my anger, too, as anger was not allowed in my narcissist parent childhood. Especially not regarding my parents, who never believed me, really.
