TMJ/jaw/nerve/burning

hey all. back here. i had major success with sciatic pain which never came back, but have been dealing with jaw/tmj nerve pain. what is more confusing is that my molar developed a major hot/cold sensitivity (8/10 pain) and I eventually decided to extract it and work towards an implant (my grinding issues is a different story, and definitely related to TMS, but my teeth got physically damaged as a result of this). the tooth issues were in the same location as the TMJ pain.Muscles definitely feel tender, I do suspect this is TMS.
so my TMS came back....in a completely different area? i highly suspect TMS, but since this location is somewhat new, I do wonder if anyone here had problems with jaw/TMJ and all sort of facial nerve issues.
I did it once, but it takes while to re-train yourself 'hey is this area really TMS?'.

Yes have had acute bouts of TMj on and off for 10 years, but have had near constant TMj for 4 months now, it’s all TMS. I can see physical changes on my X-rays but not enough to warrant the symptoms I have. I’ve made huge improvements since applying a mind body approach but TMj is probably my most annoying symptom still. A good chunk of the population is walking around with some degree of degeneration/displacement in the TMJ but show absolutely no symptoms, my symptoms are all muscle related, and have periods where they get very tense.

Yes....and I wasted an F-ton of Money on it !!!

I have been under a lot of pressure. My Dog died. I am worried about my other Dog's mental health. My Truck took a dump and I just started a Huge Job or three. I had nothing to do for a month and now everybody wants me at the same time....and I am such a good guy (n't)

The tooth that ISN'T even real and had a Root canal starts aching!!!! There is actually a story online of a Japanese woman who had every single tooth in her mouth removed and Implanted due to dental pain and STILL has pain. What else could it be but TMS?

Sarno himself had mystery Molar pain. He said it is the Trigeminal nerve. If you use the search bar someone posted a diagram of it here on the Forum. Just looking at the pic makes my teeth hurt (and a lot of them are fake)

I never paired it with my successful overcoming of back, hip, knee and hand pain... I wish I had known earlier. I would have saved a lot of $$.

Remember: It's about the Rage. My worst pain came during the end of a really bad relationship WHILE I was trapped watching my Mom with Dementia. I am certain that was at the 'root' of my pain.

Sometimes the tooth where I had a root canal & crown aches when I'm angry, upset, or stressed... which really makes no sense. I developed TMJ late 2023 right before I discovered TMS. Too much pressure on myself, self-hate, and suppressed emotions led to several physical symptoms, one of them being TMJ. When I began the emotional work, it went away. And I wasn't even focused/concerned about that part of my body. But by doing this work, several "bonus" symptoms disappeared.

I say, go back to the basics if it's been a while for you. Restart the Structured Educational Program. Read some success stories. You will be fine.

i started focusing on TMS last night. all neurological pain left within 2h. (all except post extraction mild soreness)
TMJ/grinding can cause real tooth problems. the problems are not directly fixable with TMS once progressed far enough. I developed a pulpitis in a molar and extreme hot/cold sensitivity. I do believe that grinding/tms was the root cause, but once it progresses and nerve goes, in many cases it is not reversible. a root canal did not completely eliminate the issue for whatever reason. large topic, but I don't think I will get any more root canals in upper molars. extraction+implant only.
root canal is essentially rotting tissue left in the body. there can be issues with this.
anyways....I had to pull it ...it fixed the immediate burning/pressure pain i was having in that area, but TMJ type pains/jaw/arm/sciatic etc pain remained (which resolved last night once i focused on emotions).
TMJ is a bit more complex then plain back pain. I do still think that wearing nightguards is a smart move since it will protect chipping away tooth issues while you progress on TMS.only regret I have that I discovered Sarno so late.
so tldr is this. TMJ=TMS. TMJ can cause real damage to tooth/enamel/pulp due to physical force of grinding in some people (myself). root canals do fail on some cases or can't fix issues like micro-tears/fractures which are not visible on imaging. facial issues are more complex due to many parts involvement like trig nerves, sinuses, PDL, teeth, jaw, muscles etc and require a highly individual approach, but TMS should always be at the core of this
i found some doctors providing a good multifactorial approach https://www.nytmj.com/john-sarno/ (Dr. Sarno and My Approach to TMD - Donald R. Tanenbaum, DDS MPH)

I got a TMj splint from a well known TMj doctor, hasn’t helped much but it’s only been 1.5 months. Frankly there isn’t much behind science behind any of these TMj treatments, and these splints can cost thousands for patients while I would estimate only cost hundreds to make, at most, it’s quite a racket and quite predatory, I felt and still feel quite taken advantage of. And then if splints fail, it’s on to Botox, massage, other splints, on and on and on. Frankly I’m very very skeptical of any long term treatment modality in this capitalist system, people are money crazed, and can mask their true intentions by preying on our fears, maybe not reality but it’s my skeptical opinion. My symptoms ebb and flow some moments I feel close to 95% normal others like now, I feel like shit, but it’s comforting to me, because if there was something truly structurally wrong I wouldn’t have such lasting moments of relief. You’re right that there are merits to mouth guards, but you can still do a ton of damage through them, there are stories of people cracking their professional TMj splints to clenching. I think if one were to prioritize something physical regarding TMj treatment it should be nighttime routine and sleep routine.

I work with animals, dogs and cats mainly. These beings use their mouths for everything , yet TMj issues just aren’t seen in any meaningful rates in them, at least not in the sense of causing chronic discomfort.

splints/dentist made nightguards are a scam for the most. I use this one. dirt cheap, pack lasts a year. tmj is plain muscle tension for the most. you are 100% right that the medical system is a money sucking vortex. you can not trust anyone. however sometimes they can be helpful - if you know that they have exactly what you need. lets say a dental implant. they do an amazing job mechanically speaking, and I got couple some of them 10+ years and 0 issues. i rather have this then dentures.
what I learned in the usa - that they are good at treating injuries, accidents, broken bones etc, but horrible in curing anything ongoing. I gave up long ago. overall doing pretty well, at 46. people tell me how healthy and good I look everywhere. if not that damn TMS popping in lol. but who knows where I would be without Sarno. wheelchair maybe? i am active, go to the gym and bike 10h/week on my road bike.

I guess my point was that the doctor you linked, one of their primary modalities is a TMj orthotic (splint), so even someone TMS ‘aware’ is selling these ‘scams’ and preying on desperate people. There are TMS and pain reprocessing coaches/therapists charging arms and legs for their programs using fear to make it seem like it’s their way or doom forever. We are surrounded by snakes masquerading as good people.

Professional splints and mouth guards are scams just by virtue of their cost to make and the amount that is charged, all that is ignoring that in many cases they do less than nothing.

they can't make money of pure sarno. they would be out of business pretty quick. no insurance would pay you for this, outside of maybe a therapist session, typically worth 70usd or so. this is true for a huge chunk of the medical system in the usa.
the only truly expensive items are surgeries, and those are rarely needed outside of accidents. my guess is that 90% of the medical system in the usa is not truly needed.
I still do appreciate the insight of doctors like in the link, who at least try. at the end of the day, nobody (in this world) will truly cure you. not trying to push any religious components here, but I have been praying a lot lately and there is a lot to be discovered.

Nothing did more to drive me away from conventional medicine than my Hip/Back Pain that brought me here. I lived in LA, had 'Motion Picture' insurance and had access to the cutting edge stuff. My Surgeon was the team doctor for the NY Knicks...and they are all, 100% certified full of shit!

Whenever a new person comes here, they have hit bottom. They are also soooooo over educated on all of the nuances of the back, neck, knee, hand, hips, jaw...it's amazing. What they might not know is that they have just as much knowledge as their former/current doctor and they are still suffering. That's why am aghast at how they have a hard time understanding, or switching to Sarno's Theories....they are defending a failed system, and yet continue to defend it's merits while they suffer! The Human Mind is weird.

What @lukas-z said is true. Except for the $11 I spent on Sarno, there is nothing to sell. Well, I did buy some of his other books...so maybe Tops, $40 ? I did have to go to Anger Therapy, but Sarno got rid of the pain w/o ever meeting me. That is Proof positive that we need NOBODIES help, except God's, to get through this thing.
The fact that I had No one to turn to and had to rely exclusively on the text is probably why I had such a profound experience and quick recovery...nobodies phone for me to blow up all day "Hey....I just had this weird feeling"

I was scared. Being Scared isn't always a bad thing....but everything you need to get better is in the Text of HBP and Mindbody Prescription.

Wow. I've just been dethroned as the Forum "In your face" truth teller. Tell us what you really think @Rabscuttle LOLOLOLOL!
I agree with you 100%. People have asked me why I don't do that and I have said that If I stopped being a construction worker, crawling around on my hands and knees for a living, my credibility might crash.
Another important detail. People come to me all the time privately needing help. There is nothing wrong with that...I would and do help anybody I can...I was so overjoyed at getting my life back. But there is nothing I pass on that isn't a first hand account of what Sarno is explaining in his book...I just might know it a little better after my 72nd read-through.

St Paul explained as much in his epistles. His continuing to work for his living on Missions and kept his credibility in tact. How am I gonna be totally Honest with you if there is $$$$$ at stake? I might not tell you how terrible your marriage is, your Job, or be 1000% honest the way @Rabscuttle is being here. That person your paying might not really give a shit. Kind of like the 'really compassionate' chronic pain doctor whose negligence actually pushed me over into the Sarno world.

Oh I could rant for a life time about my disgust at this money crazed society, but I suppose this isn’t the place lol. I’m all for a fair wage for fair work, but some people in this space and elsewhere are letting their egos influence them a bit too much. I wish I lacked such shame and decency,it’d probably be easier to live.

Hi Lukas Z, I did deal with TMJ and severe nerve and burning pain, sensitive teeth and a burnuing mouth. It did start with a structural issue in my neck that was putting prssure on my brainstem. I have since had my neck adjusted by an upper cervical chiropractor. Some of my pain has subsided but I still deal with pain caused by TMS.

thank you all. it is getting better for me each day, but follows very closely the pattern I had with back pain sciatica. 0 pain when waking up and till about noon or so. then it ramps, and before sleep magically disappears.
i think I was dealing with a complex issue with tooth going bad (extreme hot/cold pain is not TMS), which was accompanied by TMS pain due to jaw muscle tightness and trig nerve irritation.

Mine has flared up again after years of no issues. I had one of the $700+ custom orthotics when I was younger before I knew better. Now I use the cheap Dentek one and just replace it as needed. Only reason I even do that is I have ground my teeth down to the point I may lose them soon otherwise, so until I have the emotional side beat, I need some assistance.

still a rollercoaster here. one of the more complex issues I had, i am applying tms techniques (less=better). all of this mirrors tms to well unfortunately. I sleep well, and at night this burning switches off. and no pain upon waking till i get going with work/coffee. here is what is funny, at the same i have this upper right 'tooth' burning issue (feels like tooth which is gone) I also have weird radiating pain in my arm, fingers, leg. just like my past sciatica but this one goes on a path to the trig nerve and not my back. could this be really as simple a muscle tension in the jaw area causing restricted blood flow? I think that is the most likely scenario. i drilled into various AI models feeding sarno stuff and my symptoms and it is inconclusive either. there is the possibility of a tooth going bad for months (which it did) hyper-sensitized the nerve. but undoubtly a bad bite will feed into this, even if the bite itself isn't the root cause, but a result of grinding. it is just a closed loop system one making the other worse. I feel like the back/sciatic pain was peanuts after I discovered Sarno. but maybe this one is a matter of accepting 100% TMS like I did with the back.
