Has anyone tried spiritual healing? Looking to give it a go to help me connect to my emotions and release the rage.

Been doing a lot of meditation recently and has led me to the spiritual side of things, connecting to the higher self and letting it guide me. Just ordered a book on lucid dreaming and astral travel too, something for the future.

I've never tried or experienced spiritual healing or faith healing, simply because I've not seen any scientific evidence that it alone works.

However, I understand that those who have overcome their ailments have embraced an element of spirituality and prayer into their journey. Having belief in a practice may also make it easier for one to embrace concepts, such as TMS on a subconscious level. It's also been said that as we grow, the part of our brain that we use for spiritual awareness reduces as we become more analytically focused. So in short, I think embracing a spiritual practice such as prayer, or meditation could strengthen ones pathways associated to belief and ultimately help in healing.

I've always been quite a sceptic myself but my recovery has led me here. I have full faith in it but is there scientific evidence that exists from sarnos TMS recovery techniques?

That's great it worked for you. Are you a success story?

I guess it's more about what resonates with each us and what we have belief in, that ultimately leads us to recovery. Our belief is ultimately the key to triggering a placebo.

Even though there is no lab based evidence behind Dr Sarnos work, you can be assured there is evidence behind journalling and the therapies he uses within his program. Plus there are countless stories of recoveries.

I'm not saying spiritual healing or faith healing doesn't work, but it's just not something resonates with me.

I have always believed there is something more but what it is i can't say with certainty. I have a strong belief that there are no accidents, everything and everyone you meet there is a lesson to learn or reason that it happened.
It's why some people believe in mind body connection TMS and others think it's absurd and prefer believing an MRI....for me TMS is all about 5he journey into me and lessons!

I think what you're doing is great and it will be a wonderful journey into you and yes I do believe that can help you heal.

Would love to hear more as you journey....

No I'm far from a success story, I'm actually relapsing at the mo, after some decent progress in recent week ls the last wkend has been very bad. Very bad pain down my neck and around my shoulder into my ribs. Trying to think psychologically tho.

When I first started meditating I was getting great results and feelings inside. Possibly a placebo (I hope not). TMS has been winning the last few days but I'm only on the ropes, the TMS knockdown is coming soon.

I'm sorry to hear that, I can totally relate, it's a few steps forward a few backward. But hopefully at a deeper level we are making a change at a subconscious level.

Stick at it my friend, we'll get there it just takes time, willingness and determination.

Hi, allinthemind. I believe strongly in combining Dr. Sarno TMS belief in MindBody healing with faith and spiritual prayer. A friend and I wrote a book yhou might like reading, about how faith in God helped heal us, together with TMS. It is called GOD DOES NOT WANT YOU TO BE IN PAIN. It is best ordered, in paperback of Kindle edition, from CreateSpace eBooks.

My sister healed from cancer largely through prayer, as did the wife of one of my best friends. Prayer and faith have been known to be great healers for centuries. You can find some excellent videos on faith and prayer in Yolutube. Recently, I discovered the spiritual faith of the actor, Jim Caviezel, who portrayed our Lord in "The Passion of the Christ." He talks about the power of faith in some Youtube videos that are very inspiring and consoling. Good luck and God bless you as you take a closer walk with God.

Thx Walt. Will take a look at your book. Have been doing some meditation recently 'speaking to higher' and 'asking for healing'. Been off work this week with more chronic pain, well I thought that's all it was but been in bed for past 3 days, resting or 'healing'. Have my meditation or prayers been answered. I had 2 strange experiences during my time resting in bed, although I had taken some drugs to help relax (diazepam and amitriptyline). I realised a great surge of energy to my head and I could hear very loud static sounds like when pull a chord on a speaker. Then it happened again the next afternoon but without the sounds. It felt great but the first time did freak me out a bit. I'm raking a guess that I was receiving energy to help me heal, I've been trying to get to the same state of mind without drugs. Also just started reading up on chakras. Thx again Walt.

There is much in late 19th century and early 20th century New Thought writings that are suggestive of Dr. Sarno's work. They make instructive and fascinating reading.

In my experience, any kind of experience of the "numinous" --the magic beyond our material, thinking, familiar existence is very healing. It may come with something jazzy like chakras opening up, or just be a quiet sense of support of the universe. These experiences can be fleeting, but give me a knowledge that there is more to my existence than the repetition of old patterns. I am a "clearing where things gather." And there is magic in me. I like knowing I am part of the magic of the universe. I am a depth and potency, and I don't know what will happen next. I am alive.

I've been enjoying meditating recently and feeling my body fill with energy from the universe. I even experienced my crown chakra opening I had a burst of energy in my head, I was taking drugs to help me sleep though. Grrrrrr.

I find meditation to be very healing.

Meditation is a time-honored way of relaxing the mind and relieving anxiety, mental stress, headaches, and even physical pain. There are many ways to practice meditation but I have found the most successful to be a technique called the Relaxation Response.

A friend who is a psychiatrist says about it: “It is so good, so well established. I taught this approach to stressed out teachers, with success! It is simple, not "spiritual," and readily available. This is important: It is the practice, and becoming a habit that is powerful.”

It is done 20 minutes once or twice a day, before a meal and works best if not practiced within two hours after a meal.

Just sit, close your eyes, don’t listen to any music, try to avoid outside noises. Let your mind think of a word such as "One " which has no real meaning or association. Say the word silently over and over. At the end of the 20 minutes, picture and feel yourself as you were when you felt your best, and in a place where you felt that way.

Follow the technique below and see how fast you calm. It is similar to Transcendental Meditation but unlike that technique which many consider to be a religion or cult, and that costs $1,000 from a trained TM coach. The Relaxation Response is not a religion or cult and costs nothing.

Here is an article about the Relaxation Response and how to practice it:

Herbert Benson, M.D. documented benefits experienced through traditional forms of Christian and Jewish prayer. Benson published his Relaxation Response” method of stress reduction without the mysticism associated with TM. Short structured rest periods provide health benefits.

The following is the technique reprinted with permission from Dr. Herbert Benson's book
    The Relaxation Response pages 162-163

    1. Sit quietly in a comfortable position.
    2. Close your eyes.
    3. Deeply relax all your muscles,
beginning at your feet and progressing up to your face.
    Keep them relaxed.

    4. Breathe through your nose.
    Become aware of your breathing.
As you breathe out, say the word, "one"*,
    silently to yourself. For example,
breathe in ... out, "one",- in .. out, "one", etc.
    Breathe easily and naturally.

    5. Continue for 10 to 20 minutes.
You may open your eyes to check the time, but do not use an alarm.
When you finish, sit quietly for several minutes,
at first with your eyes closed and later with your eyes opened.
Do not stand up for a few minutes.

    6. Do not worry about whether you are successful
in achieving a deep level of relaxation.
Maintain a passive attitude and permit relaxation to occur at its own pace.
    When distracting thoughts occur,
try to ignore them by not dwelling upon them
    and return to repeating "one."

With practice, the response should come with little effort.
Practice the technique once or twice daily,
but not within two hours after any meal,

since the digestive processes seem to interfere with
the elicitation of the Relaxation Response.

Also, I believe in spiritual healing. I pray the Holy Rosary every day and find it is a form of meditation. I find it good to thank the Lord for the blessings He has given me over my 85 years.
