So keeping a symptom log is a no no. What about a food diary?

I swear food affects my symptoms in a bizarre way! Can I keep track of this or is that going to make me think it's actually diet?

I would track stress, emotional issues, events, possible conditioned "triggers" to possibly correlate with symptoms, rather than food. Food tracking is a "no-no" if you want to use the TMS method, in my opinion.
