Sad and losing hope - levator ani

Hi,

I’m not here posting for sympathy, but to hopefully get some encouragement. I’ve had this “levator ani syndrome” rectal aching since March of 2018. It has forever changed my life . I’ve confirmed there’s nothing medically wrong so my brain has accepted that . (Blood work, mri , physical/visual exam).

I’m just getting exhausted with the roller coaster of having good days then awful days - weeks of just aching and discomfort from the moment I wake up to the moment I sleep with no concrete ways to lower the pain or get relief .

Have read DR Sarnos books, watched some YouTube videos on somatic healing , and tried just living life and not focusing on it and nothing has worked.

I feel like something is just missing and I don’t know what it is. A coach, supplemental medicine with the work im doing , having the proof that this can be beat.

Im having a hard time accepting this is what my
Life needs to be like for the rest of my time on this earth and realizing it can be pain free, I just need a better road map to get there.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated and thank you for taking the time for any input.

Ignoring is not Dr. Sarno’s prescription. He does not only say to just “go live life” by simply living as you always did. Is this how you’ve been approaching your symptoms?
Dr. Sarno sent many of his patients to psychologists because your emotional life, in particular internal, subconscious rage was an equal emphasis to his treatment - and it’s the part our minds often want to avoid like the plague. I have not used it, but others are really finding benefit in Vanessa Blackstone’s Pain Reprocessing workbook. Dr. Schecter, Dr. Schubiner also have workbooks and this website has a free program called the Structured Educational Program (link at the top of the forum page). All will help you with the work.

Have you tried the program on here? It's the SEP and free! This could get you started working each day learning about TMS and responding to journaling prompts. It's a good starting place or when when you are stuck.

I had pain in that area for 6 years so I know how you feel! All the suggestions above are great to start :)

Yes, I’ve tried hyper fixating on it and then I’ve tried just living life. I guess I need to find the balance :( I’ll check out “ Vanessa Blackstone’s Pain Reprocessing workbook“ and Dr. Schecter and Dr. Schubiners workbook today. I think I’m having trouble addressing the subconscious rage. Thank you for taking the time to write these suggestions.

I have not, I will check this out. Thank you very much.

I think this is where everybody is when they come onto this forum. and it’s where everybody is tempted to go a lot of times. TMS is so discouraging! but if you don’t give up, you’ll find a way out. and nobody knows the formula that it will take for you. Everybody’s formula is different. some basics are the same, but the timing and everything else is unique, so don’t compare yourself to anyone else and above all keep your hopes alive!

Please don’t lose hope I did have the same symptom as you’re describing a long time ago and I’ve been completely free from it for a few years now. I used to suffer from it very badly and it used to be all I could think about. Now I’m completely free of it and even forgot this was ever happening to me and just remembered about it when I read your post. I’m dealing with some other symptoms now but that one has completely vanished and I’m sure you’ll be able to get free of it as well :)

That’s a very good point and a great approach to keep in mind. I’ve been listening to the pain reprocessing therapy work book, and want to try and find a TMS therapist to do some mind work which may help break this cycle .

Wow, congrats on recovering that’s amazing. Do you have any tips on breaking the cycle ? And sorry you’re going through other symptoms now :(

I’ve recovered from this symptom but then got other symptoms which means I still need to do more TMS work. As we know TMS shifts around the body so the fact that some symptoms go and others come means I still have work to do.

I’m still working on breaking the cycle but just wanted to reply to your post because I know it can be helpful to know that somebody else has completely recovered from a symptom you’ve got. I’m also looking through this forum searching for people who recovered from things I’m struggling with and it really gives me hope when I see a success story.

When we’re feeling pain it doesn’t always mean that our bodies are damaged. You said the doctors confirmed that there is nothing medically wrong with you and I know how it feels when you’ve got all the scans and tests come back clear but the pain is still there. Please don’t give up on TMS work because I know you can get rid of this symptom. I actually never had this specific symptom checked out by a doctor because I was too ashamed to tell anybody about it but I still recovered.

I have actually recovered from many other symptoms as well and I’m planning to post a success story because some of them are ones that I don’t really see mentioned on here. I still have some other symptoms lingering but knowing that I’ve recovered from a big number of symptoms already gives me hope although sometimes I’ve got sad days. The weather is getting warmer now which makes me feel better and I hope that you’ll feel better as well with the sun shining a lot more now :)

The "good days and bad days" cycle is the most draining part of this. Since the medical tests came back clear, it really is a mental game of not letting the flares dictate your mood. Stick with the somatic work but maybe try to find a coach who specializes in pelvic tension specifically.

Hello Skyman. I somehow missed your posts about those symptoms.
I have the same issues and I know how frustrating it can be.
unfortunately I also did not find a way or a cure for this symptom. I can see how it can get loader louder with stress and gets quieter if i am distracted or very happy.
I have also tried tms and tried allowing and stuff but did not seem to work.
anyway, i dont have some news, let me know if you found anything that works for you.
