Question re physical body sounds

Can TMS cause sounds and physical symptoms? I.e. I have a lot of crunchy sounds in my neck, can TMS amplify this? Everytime I hear it I get fearful, so I’m trying to calm it down.

does anyone have good techniques to quieten the fear when I hear sounds, or feel things moving about

I also have fears around the pain type, I keep playing tricks on myself that my pain MUST be different from the recovery stories, and I go around the loop until I realise that’s the TMS talking again

Yes muscle tension can creating popping, crunching and clicking sounds as the bones and joints have more resistance when they move. I have nearly 24/7 crunching in my ears and clicking in my jaw, neither are related to or indicative of pain. I have some muscle tension but mainly I became so focused on the pain months ago so my senses to those sounds/feelings are heightened. They don’t bother me much anymore but it took some time to be able to tune them out and not catastrophize.

knowledge and belief that what you have is TMS is how you get over the sounds. Doing some form of structured plan and work, making progress will increase your belief and you can gain power over the sounds and the fears they evoke. Evidence logs are super important.

Thank you, I’m definitely getting somewhere, I can feel the shift. I picked up all the chronic pain books 6 months ago and was so dispondent that they weren’t working. But I missed a key part, I didn’t believe I had TMS, now - I’m 90% convinced, I’m going to keep evidencing to myself until I’m at 100% and then I can start the real progress

@HealingNow I have crunching sounds that occur with movement coming from all over my body, to include my neck, which are caused by what @Rabscuttle has explained plus in my case I believe some of the noise emanates from the fascia that covers the muscles. When I put earplugs in my ears whilst getting ready for bed at night (which means I can better hear internal noises coming from the body) and turn my neck or torso or stretch up with my arms, for instance, all I can hear is a 'symphony' of crunching and crackling sounds. This is just 'one of those things', leastways it hasn't stopped me from going from being bedridden for a total of 18 months and housebound due to severe muscle pain ('fibromyalgia') and chronic fatigue (all actually TMS) to how I am now, living a pretty normal life by comparison.

Also, I remember many years ago at the start of my relationship with my then boyfriend (he was in his mid 40s at the time) he was concerned about really loud crunching noises coming from one of his knees when he flexed it. He got it checked out by consultant leg and knee surgeon who told him that it was nothing to worry about. Our relationship lasted 12 years and during that time he didn't need surgery or suffer any pain with that knee during that time... and he was a very active person, he played racquet sports and loved hiking, going for long walks over hill and dale.
