Had a family member come up and stay with me for the week. Been feeling epically miserable and stressed. Couldn't make it to my language course today which just adds to the stress, I hate taking the subway and my roomate has been super supportive but I just had another epic attack going down the escalator and I feel horrendous. I feel like my life is over. I feel like I won't be able to go to uni this semester if I can't make it to a language course. It's just all too much. Just need to hear something from anyone..

I'm sitting in McDonald's while my roomate has gone to the language course. I recognise I hate myself athe moment and reject me and my state. I know i have deep feelings of not deserving etx but I just don't know where to start with Journaling etc. Trying to use affirmations feels useless given my black outlook on life right now.

Look into the blessings in your life and all the good you have. They are the reasons for positive affirmations and making the most of what you have in your life. Sometimes we don't realize how good we have it, when others are suffering from far more worse reasons. Deep breathing when the anxiety hits.

1.Inhale through your nose, expanding your belly, then fill your chest. Counting to 5
2.Hold and Count to 3. Feel all your cells filled with golden, healing, balancing Sun light energy.
3.Exhale fully from slightly parted mouth and Feel all your cells releasing waste and emptying all old energy. Counting to 5.

Take Care and Best of Luck.

    Hi Ana,

I'm sorry I didn't catch this thread yesterday and I truly hope you are in a much better space today. I'm sorry that you had to go through such a hard time alone, God bless you my friend.

I know from my personal experience, that when I started this journey, I felt lonely, overwhelmed and so many awful thoughts crossed my mind. You definitely aren't alone, but just realise negative thoughts are temporary and can and will pass if you apply a few techniques.

I understand there is alot of information on this site, but I'd definitely continue with the SEP or Alan Gordons program if you haven't already started. Journalling/free writing is an excellent means of uncovering those repressed emotions or patterns of behavior that are triggering your pain cycle.

    In addition to the above, I'd explore the following techniques;

    Outcome independence

    Affirmations

    4-7-8 breathing

    Meditation

    Alternate nostril breathing

Mindfulness, alternate nostril breathing and 478 breathing work wonders in relieving fear, stress etc. Hopefully this will give you enough relief to be able to function without heightened anxiety etc.

Wishing you good health and positive thoughts,

    Mike

    Hey guys,

Thanks so much for the replies. Thankfully I am in a better place today.. it's been rough, I feel so wrapped up in my head. Last week I went to an art gallery and while I was staring at paintings of Monet and Picasso all i could think about was me and my pain.

I had a friend talk to me yesterday and after a bit of a cry and a few words of positivity I was able to function much better today. I think I'm going to start the sep actually and just take it slow I suppose.

    Thanks again all.

    X

Well done, that's the spirit, Ana. Take your time, the purpose of the work is to uncover truths about oneself and learn to change, the greatest and most important relationship of all, the one with self. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself and learn to show yourself kindness, love and self compassion. God bless you.

PS, I know this is easier said than done, but try and focuss on all the good things in your life, as small as they seem. The purpose is to shift your thinking to a healthier state.

I'm so glad it's better today, Ana. And I applaud your decision to start the SEP. It's a wonderful program that leads us to examine some of the causes of stress in our lives. It also introduces a myriad of great resources.
Sometimes the most difficult thing I do in a day is to put one foot in front of the other. You can DO this!
    Blessings on your journey.

When my mind is swirling I just ask " where am I now"

This keeps me in the moment. I look around notice my surroundings and tell myself I am safe. The mind must accept it because it's true. I am safe at the moment.
