After the first 20 minutes of this program is the best. They talk about suppressed emotions causing physical reactions.

"Anxiety can cause physical symptoms... true physical symptoms."

PERFECTLY SAID. This a fantastic show! Thank you so much for sharing - I am incredibly impressed with how this topic was explained. This is going to help countless individuals!

My mom watches Dr. Phil and told me he just had an episode this week about a young mother of three who was under so much stress, her body got stuck in "fight-or-flight mode" (AKA an overactive sympathetic nervous system, which is TMS in a nutshell). She had gotten hundreds of tests done and spent endless amounts of money, but received no clear answers as to what was wrong with her. She even bought some monitoring devices to take her measurements at home throughout the day so she could eventually bring out-of-range values to doctors who might finally figure it all out. Doctors began suggesting there was nothing medically wrong with her at all, and thought she needed to relax. She refused to accept this. Dr. Phil said he definitely knew without a doubt what was wrong with her, and it was her anxiety causing real physical symptoms (not symptoms that were simply in her head, because remember that TMS isn't in our heads - it's the stressed body acting out in very real ways). She didn't want to go on medication, and he promised to not put her on any, as he felt biofeedback, neurofeedback, meditation, stress management, etc. would be far more effective than any other treatment. My mom was so excited to see this on TV because she knows how much she and I (especially me) have this, and the doctors who diagnosed me with an overactive sympathetic nervous system (TMS) recommended the same exact treatment plan to me! Golden.

This is what I've been told all my life - the first time was when I was 18, nervous about graduation and college, and had chronic diarrhea. It totally went away right after the family doc told me that. That was in 1969, and it was a pattern that repeated multiple times with different issues over the decades, until I discovered Dr. Sarno in 2011. Thankfully, there are still MDs out there who are willing to say this. I think they used to be more common, but I have hope.

And here's some hope - because it doesn't get much more mainstream than Dr. Phil, does it?

She refused to accept this.
Stress is an addiction...

Hi,

Interesting video, and a bit scary.
Years ago on my medical search path , one of the rehab specialist i saw (severe footpain) said : i think you do had a injury but then after the normal healing time : the ‘alarm went off’ so your brain is still giving painsignal to you’ because you are so stressed about being immobile
At that time i was very angry
Never heard of it back then and felt not taken serious . Maybe message was accurate but then there was no ‘follow up’ afterwards

Just after i found this wiki i learned more
