I have read many books, Dr Sarno's, all of them. I am religious about following the program.
It is great that you are committed to the program, but I always recommend against strictly following a TMS treatment plan. The reason is that it puts pressure on yourself to get better. Pressure prevents you from allowing your emotions, and will hamper your recovery. This approach is about learning to be more open and allowing of our emotions. Pressure restricts emotions.
The other issue with following the program religiously is that it reinforces the idea that there is something wrong with you. When you are focused on following everything exactly right, you are inherently focusing on the physical and what is wrong with you. Remember, with TMS there is nothing wrong with you, and there is nothing that you need to fix. You do not have a condition that can be fixed by a program. You have a condition that can only be overcome when you change how you view your symptoms.
Hi Nancy,
I am in Kansas so.. far from TN. You are going to get this figured out. I have complete confidence in you.
Hi Nancy! Great to see you join the community. I am still struggling with low back pain myself but reaching out to this community has been a great help. I was obsessed with TMS this summer which almost became worse than my back pain. I was trying to find the right posting, book, magic word, etc. that would help me heal. I can find myself sometimes still looking for a physical reason. We all have been conditioned for so long that I finally realized that it will take time to decondition. It seems like the more I rush to heal the pain only gets worse.
If you have not started the SEP on this site, that might be a good starting point. Look into some mindfulness threads on this site. That does truly help. I also like the book The Great Pain Deception and Mind Power of the 21st Century. I hope this helps. I know how hard it is especially when we are in pain. I am & always will be on this journey. Take care!
