" . . . take a short minute and write a forum post on how you are doing so far, and what apprehensions you may have about this treatment or your life in general."
I'm now in the second half of the SEP. It's good to read the articles, and I'm still rereading Sarno. I've found the journaling especially helpful, as it's opened up lots of past (and previously unknown) emotion for me. It's amazing how much stuff is "down there" once I start writing about it. My back pain is probably about the same as it was initially, but I've come to accept that, and just let it be. My focus is on doing the emotional work. I've been doing lots of walking and a tiny bit of running, and that has increased my confidence and, frankly, joy!
I have a copy of The Presence Process, and am eager to start reading it when time allows. Although I'm retired, I find dozens of everyday activities to use up my time -- ironic, I know, that all my "doing" keeps me from reading a book about "being."
My wife and I are embarking later this week on a week-long driving vacation, and I probably will take a break from the SEP during that time, since we will be highly involved with family during our limited time with them. I don't expect this visit to be especially stressful, but then again, it's family, so who knows?! I intend to resume the SEP immediately upon returning home.
After our trip I'm also thinking about making an appointment with a TMS doctor who's about a three-hour drive from my home -- the closest one I've found. Although I believe I have TMS, I think my subconscious might respond more completely if it heard a diagnosis from an MD, especially since my regular doc has prescribed several drugs (which I've discontinued) and recommended that I talk to a surgeon about my back (which I haven't done). He's not the sort who'd be open to discussing TMS.
So basically I'm just following the process, appreciating the insights I've received, and expecting the best. I appreciate everyone's support and just the existence of this remarkable community. Thanks to all.
