Day 1 Hoping to stick to this programme

    Hi,

I've been reading on and off about TMS and related stuff for a few months, but I haven't seen much in the way of results yet. Probably because I have not been consistently working on it, and also because I still have nagging doubts about whether it's the right diagnosis for me. I would say I'm about 50% convinced, and it's hard to say what's holding me back. So I am going to try to work through this programme every day to see if I can change my mindset and hopefully make some progress with my symptoms. For me it's daily neck pain that gets worse when I work at my computer, which prevents me from working full time, and headaches several days per week that can become migraines.

That's it for day 1. I'm happy to be here and hoping to stick it out.

How about replacing the word "hoping" with "determined"?

Intention is EVERYTHING when doing emotional work. Be sure to read all of the recommended introductory materials.

Yeah that sounds like good advice, thanks. I am not great at sticking to things. If I'm honest I guess I am afraid that if I promise myself to do this and then I get bored or disillusioned and I quit then I will feel bad about myself for being a quitter. I tend to beat myself up about these things. If I don't commit then I get to avoid that feeling.

Self examination is the starting point ;)

Welcome, @crowford! I am new here, too. One thing that has help me grow in my belief that it's TMS is Alan Gordon's somatic tracking. It helps me see that at least some of the symptoms are really not static, which suggests that they're not structural. Also, from what I've read, it seems like things getting worse at the computer is classic TMS.
Just yesterday my vision was blurring in and out while I worked at the computer in the morning and totally freaking me out and then in the afternoon it was clear and relaxed while working at the computer. That clear and relaxed is what Alan calls an "exception."
Maybe trying somatic tracking occasionally or looking for exceptions could help.
