Day 1 Hope and expectation

Today is day 1 (or at least day one on this site). I finished 'the divided mind' yesterday and recognise myself in it incredibly strongly. It has taken me eight years to get to the point where I can accept the notion that all my various pains are coming from my mind. I'm already pretty convinced that it will work as I've had a few appointments with one of Dr Sarno's former students in London and saw some big changes. I still had some lingering doubts due to certain pains 'moving around' but after reading the book I'm almost totally confident. 99% . I can't shift that 1% of doubt yet but I'm hoping thats natural. I'm ready to get better.

Welcome @hello_henman!

A lot of folks talk (we might sometimes say obsess) about the 100% goal, whereas I see that as a distraction and, in many cases, a reason to avoid making any changes. So I don't think that 100% belief is required to start doing this work. All that's needed is a mind that's just open enough to allow for alternatives to recovery, as well as enough self-compassion to know that you deserve to recover.

Belief comes by doing the work, and you've made the choice to take the plunge, so hooray for that!

Hi, can you please tell me the name of the Dr you saw in London?

Yes, welcome @hello_henman! There is much to be hopeful about.

Actually, pain moving around is a strong sign that the pain is TMS. After all, if the pain was structural, it would stay primarily in one spot.
Thanks!

His name is Nick Potter. He has a book on Amazon called The Meaning Of Pain, the contents of which is pretty much what he'll tell you.
