Day 11 Familiarity with Armchair Linguist's story

Hello all!

I am doing my homework, like the little goodist that I am, and wanted to write about how I definitely have a lot of similarities to the story posted on Day 11.

My symptoms began right after my brother died and I totally freaked out, and spiraled into an anxious depression hole. It started with tennis elbow and it was all I could focus on, until the pain moved to my neck and shoulders. I stopped playing videogames with my husband, convinced the repetitive movement was hurting my elbows. I stopped lifting weights. I stopped throwing large pots in my studio. I went to PT at my doctor's bequest. I got special pillows to sleep on. I got on a ton of supplements. We even bought a new mattress. I do love that mattress though.

I read John Sarno's book and felt a little better but wasn't convinced (Freud wasn't wrong all the time, but his views on women made things hard to swallow), still fixated on the idea that it was physical despite my x ray, blood test, and ultrasound being negative, because I had a bad ear infection that my doc treated and my neck felt better after that.

Now, I'm riding my bike and throwing big pots, no problem. I still haven't gone back to weightlifting, but intend to next week, though I am pretty scared.

I have a hard time shaking the idea that I just need an MRI to BE SURE, but I know that's an expensive fool's errand.

I will be brave just like the person in the story and I will get better! Little engine that could..I think I can. I think I can. I think I can.

Thanks for reading y'all! I really appreciate the community here and hope y'all are staying warm and safe. :)

The more you do pain free, the less and less solace you’ll place in needing the MRI scan. Some things just need time to fade. Try to not dwell or ruminate on the idea either, acknowledge the thought, but then try to let it go and move on with whatever you’re doing.
