I first heard about the book healing back pain around 3 years ago and I specifically remember downloading it onto my kindle and never reading it.

I feel like a have been dealing with some lower back pain since my teens but it has always come as a dull ache either side periodically and has not kept me away from the sports that I love for long-> Golf, Tennis and going to the gym.

I remember about 3,5 years ago I was in the gym doing romanian deadlifts and something just zapped in my low back, this had me super worried and I lay down on the floor and felt like I could not move for a while until I limped back home with a cool pack on my back. Ever since then I have never fully “recovered” from the low back pain but have had period of flares maybe 1-2 times per year but more in the past year especially since I lost my stepdad to suicide 2 years ago and that’s also when I started to have tension headaches and upper back and shoulder pain.

About a week ago I watched a podcast episode that reminded me of this book and the concept of TMS and I started listening to the audiobook and I could not stop until I had finished the book in less than 2 days, I felt like I was reading my biography. I felt like the pain spots, the personality type fit perfectly and especially I started to connect the dots between stressful life changed such as changing jobs, moving countries and losing a loved one to the exaggeration of my pain.

I am however still nott 100% convinced and I am working on getting there as I have been seeing a rheumotologist and taking adalimumap/humira for the past 7-8 months and felt like it was only barely helping but after pausing it for 1-2 months I definately felt like I had taken a step back in my recovery as I had been feeling at least a bit better. So now the doctor has me trying a new biologic and I am not totally convinced but I believe maybe it does’nt matter and I can still go all in on the TMS methotology.

those are my thoughts as of now

I was the same with a groin injury after squatting - 6 year of chronic pain followed but 5 of those I had no idea about TMS and thought I'd severely damaged myself - in reality, my injury would have healed in a few weeks. Our backs are ridiculously durable (so are groins but backs even more so) - I can't remember the exact stats but they've tested the spine and discs (on cadavers) and they can take an obscene amount of stress and weight.

You've very likely found your way out, how exciting :)
