BELONGING TO SUPPORT GROUPS A NO NO?

I also think there is much to gain personally by reaching out and helping others. It shifts the focus off yourself and whatever pain or unhappiness you may be experiencing.

I agree, but I also think it's about striking a balance. It shouldn't be a means of deflecting from ones own issues. Reaching out and helping others should be from a place of love, not from ego or for self gain.

I have three friends who have frequented bereavement support groups, one for almost ten years following the untimely death of her teenaged daughter, and from my vantage point it appears that these groups tend to prolong the healing process: to pick the scab off the otherwise-healing wound.
