7 Years of Pain

Hello all

This month marks my 7 th year of tms pain with not much resolve in pain .

The bright spots is that i am finally free from a bad marriage ...a demise of a 25 year family business that cause me nothing but stress.

Looking at the bright side got a fantastic job have a great girl friend and a great home I share with my children .

Though my main support system my brother moved to California to restart his life and a big loss to me . I know that he will always be there for me.

I am looking towards a brighter future though I had to go on a antidepressant and a benzo to control my anxiety which put me in the hospital twice in the last 5 months .

I stopped all the added pressure of journaling meditation reading of more tms books which did just had pressure and no relief .

I am thankful for what I have and what's coming.

I too was asked by my therapist to stop the obsessive behavior regarding my "attack" on TMS. So, I am now reading Bruce Springsteen's "Born To Run" book. Fascinating if you are a fan!! Anyway, the benzo use is what caught my attention. As a recovering addict (benzo addiction) and alcoholic I must say that is a dead end street. From a TMS standpoint the meds simply mask the real problem. They are only a symptom reliever. Not a problem solver. I believe that about ALL meds but especially the tranquilizer. No permanent fix ever came from them. None.

For me, getting a good counselor, who understands and believes in mind-body, was a huge step for me. My obsessive nature became counter productive. Maybe give that a try. Or if you have a counselor maybe a change is in order. Not a doc with pills, a real psychoanalysis based counselor.

Sounds like some of the dust has settled for you. I had to learn this might be a long haul. I'm fine with that now.

Regarding the benzo I feel no big need for them at.5 at klonpin but I needed to calm myself down after to hospital stays. Dangerously high blood pressure I was put on the meds by my psychiatrist and with approval from my TMS doctor . It's not forever it's just part of self-care

Hi Marco,
So glad to hear of the bright spots!!! Been thinking of you and praying you will see improvement in your TMS symptoms. I'm on year 6 myself. I told you before I went back on Paxil and I'm so glad I did. It did not make the pain go away but it did help my REACTION to it. I take an occasional Vistaril (non-addictive) for sleep if it's been a highly stressful day. I am living life fully these days, pain or no pain. Please keep in touch with us and please msg me if you ever need encouragement.

Ok, but please pay close attention to your klonopin use. It is very strong and highly addictive. Anyone that tells you anything different is completely clueless. I was addicted to klonopin (clanazapam) for years. All benzos can be very dangerous to break free from. The body can have very hard time with the withdrawal. Benzo's should used for "weeks" not months. And definitely not years. Good luck.

My Dr wants me off this month waiting for Paxil to kick in went from 1 mg to .5 in a month and will be going down to .25 at end of August .. so I am really not taking much

Hi Uwut2du,how did you get off clonazepam? I am on .75mg and would love to get off it?I was on 1 mg several years ago and just came off it cold turkey with no withdrawal except insomnia but this time round I am finding it so difficult. Thanks!

I did it all wrong and got very ill. I too went cold turkey and did not sleep for a week. And I mean six nights of ZERO sleep. Also very hot and sweaty. It was awful.

So, if I had to do it again I would actually reach out to an addiction treatment center or the detox unit in a hospital. The sad truth is most medical professionals hand these things out far too easily without understanding the implications. And I am talking about psychiatrists and family MD's that prescribe them. These specialists would ween the patient off safely.

Thank you! Several years ago I was gaily handed out this drug by my GP to help me sleep as I suffer from TMS pain. Now,however, here in the UK it is seen as a "dirty" drug and not often prescribed which is good.Yes even .75 mg is a lot and I am going to go very slowly with cuts at first and get help if I feel I cannot do it myself.Cheers!
