does meditation cure or just reduce pain?

Why is it that everything I see regarding mindfulness just talks about helping patients manage pain, and bring the intensity levels down. Can it do more than that? I'm so anxious to know that there's a cure, and not just coping mechanisms.

Using many strategies discussed on this wiki have led to my recovery from chronic pain. Meditation is a helpful tool in providing the space I need to be aware of my thoughts, and therefore, change them. However, in my opinion, meditation alone would not cure pain. One has to deal with the emotional conflicts and change habitual patterns of behavior to be successful.
