Wisdom tooth discomfort & the mind-body connection!

Hey everyone,
I recently had a persistent "weird" feeling behind my lower molar due to a wisdom tooth trying to come in. My dentist checked it and confirmed it's just mild gum tissue irritation with no infection.
What really struck me was the mind-body aspect: while I was eating, the discomfort completely disappeared. But as soon as my focus shifted back, the sensation returned. I realized my constant checking and probing with my tongue was physically re-irritating the spot and keeping my brain's alarm system on high alert.

Has anyone else experienced something similar with jaw or gum discomfort, and how did your recovery go?

In a lifetime of TMS symptoms there have been times when I've had random toothaches that when examined by a dentist were not seen as having any physical problem. These phantom dental pains left with the rest of my TMS symptoms. The specific manisfestation of TMS is not really relevant as recovery happens the same way for all issues. Are you working on a particular TMS recovery method?

Hi Ellen, thank you for responding. To answer your question, I have been following Dr. Sarno’s methods and Vipassana meditation for my TMS recovery.
I have noticed a recurring pattern: as soon as I realize a symptom isn't structural, it tends to resolve on its own within a few days. However, I often find myself in a loop, I feel better for a short time, and then a new symptom appears. This makes it really hard to differentiate between a legitimate structural issue and a TMS manifestation.
I am currently struggling with this regarding a toothache and gum inflammation. My dentist mentioned that my wisdom tooth is coming through. I know that while some people experience pain with this, others don't. Because my gum is slightly raised and inflamed, I am stuck, unable to decide if this is a structural issue that needs addressing or just another TMS manifestation. It’s hard to let go of the doubt when there is a physical sign like inflammation present. Any thoughts on how to handle this?"
