What does it feel like to be fully physically relaxed? Is it scary??

Many TMSers will find that they haven't experienced complete relaxation (at least while awake, but often while asleep we are tense, too!) in a number of years, perhaps even since childhood.

I'm experiencing right now how challenging it is to trust that if I relax my muscles, I'll still be able to breathe, see, etc. Wow, what a different feeling, and how unnerving!

I want to encourage others to try. Do you *ever* let your belly go? Your neck and shoulders? Do you feel anxious if you do so?

Yep.

Turns out we have skeletons in there to help keep us stable, too. And we can trust the chair beneath us.

WILD.

It's not scary for me to relax. The problem I have is that my body will immediately tense back up just after a couple of seconds. I've noticed this during meditation and I have to keep scanning my body for tension and let it go again!! I never realized how tense I was until learning about TMS. I just thought it was normal.

Fascinating! I definitely get scared. It's not hard for me to relax during meditation/body scan but very hard to keep my neck/head/shoulders/etc. relaxed while going about my day. Obviously, the muscles are engaged to some degree while moving but the tension I have is way more than necessary, and it never releases.

I understand what you means about how quickly it comes back, and how you thought it was normal.
