I just watched a Chicago TV news program where senior citizen couples having a Valentine's Day lunch were asked the secret of a successful marriage (most have been together 25 to 50-plus years).

The men said, "Do what she asks."

The women said, "Have a sense of humor. Instead of hitting him, just laugh."

I say, "Or stay single and get a dog."

As a married woman the first seems sensible, the second is possible and the dog is mandatory!
And my husband's main affirmation is 'I AM a happily married man'!

Great reply, hecate. Especially about the dog.
