Using the "change triangle" to process emotions

Thanks for posting this, Ellen. It is no accident that the triangle of change she describes is entirely consistent with Sarno. Sarno's chief psychologist and long-time colleague, Arlene Feinblatt, was trained in ISTDP and used that to treat patients that Sarno referred to her. In a part of The Divided Mind that she wrote, she called it Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy, omitting the first word, Intensive, which might be off-putting to some. Malan's triangle of conflict is one of the pillars of ISTDP, the other main one being the triangle of the person. When I see people on this forum say, "I journal and journal and journal, but I don't get any better," I can't help but wonder how much of that is because their defenses, of which they are unaware, distract them from journaling about the right things.
