Today I am grateful for modern medical technology

Beloved Grand Eagle
Yesterday I had what for me has been long-desired cataract surgery on both eyes. I opted to maximize my distance vision because I've always been far-sighted and I don't mind wearing reading glasses - and I'm already thrilled with the results. I spent yesterday afternoon and evening with very dilated vision (and a slightly woozy brain from the very effective sedative) and feeling like my eyes were full of grit (Tylenol helps!) but when I woke up this morning and removed the protective shields, I immediately saw an obvious improvement in clarity. Not just an improvement - it feels like a complete restoration of my pre-50s visual clarity. The remaining minor discomfort and a week of various restrictions and five weeks of drops are totally worth it to have such clear vision again in my last couple of decades.

This is one of those instances in which modern medicine can actually reverse one of the inevitable effects of age - and miraculously do so with a minimally-invasive procedure.

Everyone who's had their cataracts done, feel free to join the happy dance!

I loved reading your post-it was so serendipitous for me! It has triggered me, in a good way, to commit to moving forward with responding to my need for cataract surgery.
I’m having more and more difficulty seeing clearly through my eyes. The other day i tripped over a curb and fell so hard on the road (with an embedded muni track) that i thought i had broken a rib. I thought it was due to inattentiveness because i was focused on trying to catch the muni. But now I think it was more due to poor vision.
Today i noticed my vision has gotten exponentially worse. I am so good at neglecting myself and not listening to what my body is trying to tell me. The damage to my ribcage has been very instructive. It hurt like hell for the first 3 weeks, at times competing in pain with my TMS symtoms. But unlike the TMSs, the rib pain was constant and i could feel the tissues slowly healing. The fascia would ache when i stretched it, then released and felt better. Very different from TMSs. Today I didn’t notice that i didn’t have anymore pain in my rib until i wrote this. I’ve healed. My TMSs still shoots me everyonce in while. But now because i’m Being more willing to spend the time not focusing on the symptom(s) and instead allow what’s on the edge in the peripheral vision of my thoughts (as the symptom tries to take center stage) letting my unthought thoughts bubble forward is bringing to mind unremembered and now remembered times i was punished with a belting. My vision gets blurry while these visions appear, smoke-hazy. Healing TMS is hard. My body can heal on its own but my emotional being is so well protected that it is hard to get close enough, safe enough to let the fear be seen. And once seen, seen for what it is. Just fear. Protective, ineffective, smokescreen.

Very encouraging and inspiring post, Volcano1963!

Definitely go for it! Almost everyone in my age group has had theirs done and are so pleased with the results - even my four-years younger sister had hers done two years ago, but I kept getting told mine weren't "ready".
