Hello

I have a question…. I have been making good progress but I find now my TMS is triggering at a certain time of day 3pm I get pain symptoms

is this a well known thing?

more evidence that it’s TMS right?

It is indeed a recognised phenomenon that TMS symptoms, including pain, can be triggered at specific times of the day. This aligns with the concept of conditioning, where the brain associates certain times, activities, or emotions with pain signals even when there is no structural cause. This time-based symptom pattern can serve as further evidence that the pain is due to TMS rather than a physical injury or structural problem.

TMS pain is often linked to psychological stress, emotional triggers, and unconscious conditioning. Over time, the brain may learn to produce pain signals at predictable times as an alert mechanism tied to past stress or emotional repression. This process is similar to Pavlovian conditioning, where the trigger (like a particular time) prompts the brain to generate pain as a protective distraction. Recognising these patterns is consistent with how TMS symptoms can behave and supports the idea that the pain is mind-body related rather than structurally based.

Mine can do this too. Usually mornings are good for me but something about the afternoons can trigger some pain. You are definitely not alone in it!

Not just times of day but also days of the week. It's cliche I know, but Mondays are particularly hard on me overall.

I'm not surprised it's different - every one is different and has different hangups.
I think mine is cause I don’t have time to think at work… then at home I get more time to realise my heads full!

I did somatic therapy today, was wonderful. Having a pain free evening so far! More evidence

Recently I had been questioning the tms sensations that often arise late in the afternoon. I now am able to connect those sensations with repressed anger over my efforts to please a testy husband with a dinner he won't complain about. It was Baseball's question about looking for possible anger that helped me. Of course I was in denial for a long time before I could accept this particular anger. A victory in the ongoing battle.

Weirdly I’m the other way? I’m worse on weekends…
That was me, with one of my "five-ibuprofen headaches" that ruined many Saturdays back in the day. But only if I didn't have anything scheduled! It was astonishingly consistent, but of course I couldn't see it until I looked back "after Sarno".

I now think TMS shows up as a 'whatever works' kinda thing. Maybe same time every day, if that's grabbing our attention and keeping us focused on the physical symptoms. Maybe during a vulnerable time (could be at work when we need to produce physically; or at an game or athletic event we're in, etc.) that will grab our attention. Or, maybe at different times which would really throw off some and grab their attention.
And, we've seen how it can jump around the body in real time.... In the end, it's all the same thing, no matter how or when it shows up.
