For those who aren't "amygdala junkies," the amygdala is a primitive part of our brain that plays an important role in deep instinctual emotions like fear and rage. In contrast, the frontal-cortex is the Spock-like part of us that handles logic.
Thanks to working on TMS and reading books about it, I now know what to call the part of my brain
that keeps finding new ways to stress me out: the amygdala. It's such a nice-sounding word for such a pain maker!
