Taming Your Gremlins a guide to enjoying yourself by Richard D. Carson is an older book, that really fits with in tms healing principals. It essentially is “the work” -the mental and emotional work as described by Dr.Sarno and others.
The main premise is that we create “gremlins” in our heads, the inner dialog we run in constant loops. Various gremlin styles are described, along with the feelings, emotions, habits and behaviors they commonly illicit in people as a response to them. To “tame” a gremlin there are two methods: one is basically learning to meditate and simply notice that inner chatter. The other is a common grounding exercise (good for folks who don’t want to or are challenged meditating) which includes noting sounds or using your senses and at the same time noticing that self talk.
The book also discusses though habits: patterns we get stuck in, emotions we may suppress (and how to work on feeling them) and the choices we have to safely break free of ridged mindsets to allow for more self expression and freedom.
I love that no emotions are considered “negative”, that there are exercises to help you understand your perception of emotions and feelings..and that “good” emotions are also discussed as being difficult - such as experiencing joy.
It’s easy and fun to read, yet thoughtful, and lends itself to a kind inner exploration of one’s self. There are funny illustrations, and humor throughout the book and plenty of aha moments to be had. This could be a great companion to journalling or simply read on its own.

Here is his YouTube channel. There is something about the way Richard Carson lays things out that makes complete sense.
