So my doctor has gave me the green light to do a taper for citalopram However i would say im just over 50 percent recovered from symptoms. Im in the gym and working out and slowly building on that however in the next few months i want to start my taper off citalopram. The med does nothing for me but give me side effects and im sick of taking it.

ideally i know you should wait until you are fully recovered but i want to focus on a taper soon.

i was just wondering of this was a big no no or have people done this? I would use a tms approach with the withdrawal ect if i even had any!

Why should you wait until you’re fully recovered to taper off a medication that isn’t helping? You’re implying the medication has some influence over your recovery or that you’d be hurt without it. If you’re waiting to be fully recovered to make beneficial decisions regarding your health then you may be waiting a while.

your doctor gave you the go ahead to taper, you should trust them and most importantly trust yourself

This is exactly what i think! Just needed someone else to say it for reassurance haha

I'm with @Rabscuttle. Work on recognizing your tricksy inner dialogue, @Jakehealing - this question has "TMS brain games" written all over it!

You can go into this process with a proactive assumption that by following the recommended procedure, there's no reason to experience anything other than freedom from the tyranny of medication :D
