Seeing TMS dr John Sklar

I’v read so many TMS books and I’m still confused on how the program works. I want to see Dr. John Sklar here in Fort Worth. I don’t have good insurance and he doesn’t take my insurance. The cost is $500. I don’t make much money and I’m wondering is it worth the visit for my pain that I’m dealing with.

Pelvic pain/rectal pain. I’m familiar with TMS. I just don’t understand how to use it and if I’m doing it right.
 
Both of those could definitely be TMS! I was diagnosed by Howard Schubiner. It made a difference for me because I was told I didn’t have a fatal disease! I was told by a doctor that I had something I could change and get better with! So it can help your thought process! But... you have to make sure this isn’t medical? Well worth the price for me for peace of mind! I still struggle every day with symptoms and anxiety. Still a journey!

Have you ruled out any medical conditions first? (E.g. prostate, colon). I would rule those out first...before I spend $500. That is a lot of money.
 
Yes, I’ve been to 3 colon rectal surgeons. I had a cat scan of pelvis, colonoscopy,Botox, injection, anal ultrasound and all that they could come up with is tension in the rectum. I’ve tried so many medications and pelvic floor therapy. I’ve seen one of the top pelvic specialist and she said it’s tension and anxiety causing the pain. Which led me to TMS and all the books. I’m just so confused on how the program is run.
 
Tension in the rectum? Seriously? Sounds like MBS/TMS to me. Perhaps it would be worth spending $500 to get the diagnosis from such a doctor. As for the “program”, it’s really not that. It’s a mind-body issue.

Thanks for the response. I’m going to schedule an appointment with him. I need to get this under control. It’s hard to muscle through the burning pain all day.

Hi broncos24,

I believe you're on the right track to treat your symptoms as TMS, given the workups you've had. Seeing a TMS physician can be helpful to confirm your diagnosis, reduce your fear, encourage your own self-treatment, and send you in the right direction. Or refute TMS, and direct you to another pathway, which can help.

As far as what to do, Alan Gordon's programs, the SEP, and Dr. Schubiner's Unlearn Your Pain are all programs to support your TMS work.

Good luck. Many people have used a TMS approach and been successful!
