Have you been too hard on yourself recently? How and why?
Another question that I struggle to understand, and even more to answer.
Each day seems to bring a deep, introspective question.
After a long reflection and with the help of my AI app to understand the meaning of the question, I broke down.
Completely broke down—I felt a huge wave of sadness and began to cry heavily.
I realize that I am hard on myself, with all the pressure I put on myself, both regarding my TMS and in everyday life.
At first glance, I thought being hard on myself meant being critical in the sense of “you’re useless,” “you’re bad,” “you’re not doing things properly.”
But I understand now that it’s not only that, and that I am actually extremely hard on myself.
I don’t necessarily criticize myself directly, but I put a huge amount of pressure on myself in all areas of life.
I constantly tell myself: I must do this, I must do that…
If I had to answer the question, here is my response:
Yes, I think I have often been hard on myself. I put a lot of pressure on myself to understand, to improve, and to do the therapy correctly. When symptoms return, I tend to ask myself what I did wrong rather than simply acknowledging that I am going through a difficult period. I also struggle to accept that I cannot control the pace of my recovery.
This question also made me realize how much pressure I put on myself in everyday life.
For my wife, for my children…
Deep down, I want to be the good partner, the good father, the good person, the kind one… in everything.
I can see how much pressure I place on myself.
