Hi everyone,

The new server is live! However, it is very much a work in progress. This thread is the place to tell me what's broken and what you'd like fixed first. Please pardon our progress!

A few things I already know about:
  • Email is not set up yet. That means no notification emails and no password-reset emails for now. It's my first priority (see the welcome thread below).
  • New member registration is paused until email is working, because new members would never receive their confirmation emails.
  • The forum looks plainer than it used to. Our old visual customizations couldn't survive the software upgrade, so I'll be rebuilding the look step by step.
If something else is broken, or if one of these bothers you more than the others, please post about it here. I can't promise instant fixes, but your reports genuinely set the order I work on things.

If you can't log into your account (a password reset won't arrive while email is down), send a message to tmswikisignups@gmail.com from the same email address where you receive TMS Wiki notification emails, so we can verify it's really you, and I'll reset it by hand.

I'm happy to report that I've come to a decision on the email delivery service we'll use. This will help ensure that your password reset, notification, personal message, and other emails get through.

It's called Postmark and not only does it have some of the best delivery stats out there (ensuring your email gets through), it also gets good reviews from people who use our forum software, XenForo.

The downside is that they require us to complete an application to ensure we aren't spammers. If all goes well, our application should be accepted by Monday, and I can work on turning email on then.

Still waiting on Postmark... Here's how they explain the process: "Once you’re ready to send emails to others, we’ll need to approve your account. Why? Reviewing each account helps us tell the responsible senders (that’s you!) apart from the spammers (boo!), so we can maintain our stellar deliverability rates for all customers. So whenever you’re ready, submit an approval request." Application submitted Sun, Jul 26, 5:59 PM, ET.

I contacted Postmark's support address to see if there is anything we can do to accelerate the account review process. It looks like things are moving along! I will update when I have more information.

The next issue is the logo. I tracked down the old image files, but because they are squarish, they don't look good here. The next step is to paw through the underlying code and see if I can add a more horizontal temporary text-based logo.
 
Terrific news, everyone! I've got emails wired up now. I've turned registrations back on.

On a less positive note, I have about 12 weeks every year when my workload becomes incredibly intense, and I have to put off other activities. Unfortunately, we are coming up to about two weeks of those. As a result, many of the other changes I'm looking forward to making are going to have to wait. The important thing is that we have emails wired up, though, so new members can join, passwords, can be reset, and people can get notifications.

Enjoy! (I may be around occasionally, but I'm afraid I'll be pretty scarce for the next two weeks.)
