The typical physical activities restricted for people with interstitial cystitis are different that those with pain in other parts of the body. The physical things I avoid with IC are riding a bike with a regular bike seat (pressure on the pelvic floor from the bike seat causes pain) and swimming in a chlorinated swimming pool. The chlorine burns the urethra. I haven't done either of these since I was diagnosed with IC. However, I do my Barre exercise class, long walks and hikes, pilates, and yoga without many problems, which wasn't true a year ago when my knee pain was exceptional and I was walking with a limp. Totally TMS -- how could my knee improve 50% while I was on a month-long vacation in Spain when I wasn't doing any of my physician-prescribed exercises or stretches. My knee pain now only hurts during deep squats. The exercising makes me feel great.
