Pain Relief

Has anyone on this forum used pain relief drugs during their TMS journey to make their life more comfortable? I'm thinking about going on Low Dose Naltrexone. TMS symptoms could take weeks, months, years to subside (depending on the individual) and I'm thinking that making life more bearable to live may help facilitate recovery.

Sarno supported this in cases where the pain was impacting day to day quality of life.

Any thoughts/views?
 
This is a question that is asked frequently. It is absolutely OK to take medication when you need it so that you can do the work Sarno laid out for us. Sarno did support this,
It's an empowering decision for you to make. To take it, and also to choose when you don't want to take it anymore.

Could be worth a try because we are all individuals and are liable to respond differently to pain meds. My personal experience of low dose naltrexone, however, was that it didn't reduce my muscle pain one iota (I was prescribed it after I was diagnosed by a pain specialist and a consultant rheumatologist as having 'fibromyalgia'). Like all drugs there is a chance of adverse side effects, of course, but I don't remember getting any on that particular medication.

That’s interesting. What dose were you on and did you find it helped you with sleep? What’s key for me is getting control over insomnia (TMS) which will help me cope better with the day to day TMS sensations. Did you ever experience sleep disturbances and, if so, how was that resolved?
 
@mikeinlondon It was a long time ago so I'm afraid I can't remember the exact dose. I didn't have insomnia, in fact the opposite was true because at the time I was also suffering with ME/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome; I was so unduly and overwhelmingly knackered all of the time, I could have slept for England! With regard to sleep, I don't remember LDN making my sleep any worse (or better, for that matter).
 
I am using Gabapentin for nerve pain and I take OTC pain relief as needed for symptoms. I don't love the side effects with Gaba but I weigh that out with the relief I get until I get the emotional aspects under control.

Sarno 100% supported writing scripts for his patients for pain relief and told them to have some quiet rest time as needed.
