New pain since I decided to challenge myself with running

After almost a year mostly pain free, I decided to start a running program. I've gone for 4 runs, taking it slowly and wisely, and now much of my pain has returned--knee pain, hip pain, shoulder pain, and neck stiffness. What the heck. I guess I just need the reassurance that this is just TMS rearing its head again and I am safe. Any thoughts on how ot get back in touch with the truths that freed me a year ago?

The only thing I can offer is that I was able to jog short distances without the pain I always got in my neck after reading Steve Ozanich's book: The Great Pain Deception. He talked about how he got back to running after years of pain.

On my first run after reading his book, I talked to myself and focused on what didn't hurt. Since my neck was my problem, I said, "my legs feel good, my knees don't hurt, my ankles are fine" etc. I just kept repeating that the whole time I was running. Then suddenly I got a pain in my knee that made my leg buckle and I started to have to limp. And I never had knee problems before (just 6 years of neck, upper back and head pain). When the pain shot through my knee, I literally just laughed at it and it went away. Ever since that day I could run up to about 30 min without the painful Frankenstein bolts (as I called them) developing in my neck that I always used to get.

Thank you! I am so encouraged by your story. Today when I ran my left knee and inner thigh began to really hurt, so, having just read Alan Gordon'd comment on outcome independence, I ran an extra 20 minutes, just to show who's boss. Next time I will add laughing!
