Need to do root canal

I had the flu before Christmas and fainted hitting my face on the floor. It looked like I would be boxing. My front tooth felt quite sore. I was careful with it once I started to eat again. It's much better, doesn't look any different but just feels a little different. Off to dentist today. X-Ray looked ok but the ice cold spray had no effect on the said tooth so dentist said it's dying and to return in 2-3 months for root canal pain treatment unless it is painful.
The home hairdresser came afterward, told her my sorry tale and she has had it done before and says it was very painful.
Anyone here with any advice?

Jeremy, I am so sorry that this happened to you. I am not a dentist but i have had a lot of root canals and have since lost all those teeth except. All of the root canals failed. I read somewhere once that they are not meant to be a permanent solution but rather a way to help with pain. If you are not having pain, I might wait with the procedure. But it you decide on one, go to an endodontist. They do them all day long! They are specialists.

I've had a number of root canals from bad orthodontics as a teenager. I've had 8 teeth nerves "die."

Go to an endodontist. Find the best on yelp. You'll have to have the root canal and then have the tooth crowned. Once the root has come out, teeth become more brittle. With the crown, it will probably be around $3,500.00.

I would wait a bit, if you're not in pain. Perhaps the nerve will repair, if the tooth doesn't have any decay.
The native Americans used "Nettles" for teeth. You can get them in a capsule form. I take Nature's Way. It's about $7. a bottle.

If the tooth starts to go dark, it probably is dying, but if it stays the same color as the other, you could be fine.
I would do some visualization work. Picture the nerve repairing.

If you do have to have a root canal, please don't listen to the horror stories. They are NOT painful. If the tooth has an abscess, the pain is from that.
But, the minute the doctor releases the pressure, the pain is gone. The actual procedure is not painful...it is the tooth BEFORE you start that hurts.

Also, I know for some people, like Kara, the root canals fail. I've only had one fail. The others have been fine for decades. So, don't get too worried.

I had a root canal treatment in September, my first one so have limited experience. The tooth was fine for three months after, and then just before Christmas started getting little niggles with hot food and drinks, only occasional at this point which I put down as a bit of gum disease as the gap between the treated tooth is hard to get to and prone to sensitivity. It's now happening more consistently every time I have a hot drink or food, and yesterday flared up with ice cream as well. The pain settles quite quickly after I've stopped eating/drinking, although yesterday it lingered on a bit. I've tried googleing root canal failures to see if that fits my situation, but everywhere just says it really shouldn't experience any sensitivity to hot or cold because the nerves are gone. I currently have a chest infection so can't get to the dentist until I'm better, hence why I'm asking for advice here. Am I likely to need a retreatment on the tooth? Anyone else had similar problems?

Chest infection will be over with soon, then you can go to the doctor.
If you have some sinus irritation with your chest infection, you could just be feeling some sensations from the inflammation and it's no big deal. The important thing is not to freak out or worry about something that isn't currently a problem. Get well, see your dentist.

Not only that, the OP from 2019, "jeremy" is also a sneaky spammer, which I had figured out back in 2019, but due to the other posts before I caught it, I didn't delete the thread, I just removed the link and neutralized the account. (I have since "learned" how to edit these links to deactivate them instead of removing them entirely so the audit trail is more obvious) (haha, that's the CPA in me).

Anyway, I edited this new link so that it returns a DNS error, and I banned the user, so no more posts can be made with that account. You can delete your posts, and then I'll lock down the thread (leaving it for educational purposes?)

I also looked up several previous posts by this user from several weeks ago, and found quoted text in each one where links had been inserted, which I also deactivated.

According to Forest, it's not that any of our users are actually expected to click on the links - but these people get paid (probably very little) for every live link they manage to publish. The whole thing is sad and pathetic. I would let it go, but unfortunately it's not good when the precious time of our valuable members is wasted by responding to them.

The clues to watch out for: off-topic text on an old thread that is quite often about issues like dental, food/diet, alternative therapies, and, the favorite of spammers: pot.
