Tutorial Making your first forum post

Forest

Beloved Grand Eagle
Hi everyone,

The following tutorial shows you how to make your first forum post:

I suggest that people go ahead and introduce themselves in the Support Subforum as soon as they sign up. Within a day or two, some friendly people will reply and share their thoughts on any questions you ask. To do this, after making an account, just click on the following link:

Hey, riv - I think this needs to be a new thread using your own title, rather than tagging on to Forest's tutorial from 2014!

Hello all,
I am new here and figuring out how to utilize this website.
I am one of those miracle stories you've heard about. I went from non functioning with lightheadedness and dizziness and feeling of faint, to complete recovery within a week.
The pain did travel to my neck and back though, and I can't seem to get rid of it.
Any ideas?

Hello @myself816. This thread is a tutorial about using the site, and not a good place to ask for support. You need to create your own thread, starting here: https://www.tmswiki.org/forum/forums/support-subforum.26/create-thread

For future reference (if you don't bookmark this link), you start a thread as follows:
Look at the upper left menu bar and choose Forums. Choose the appropriate subforum from the list (typically Support or General Discussion). In that subforum, on the upper right, click on the blue bar for Post New Thread. Choose a good title that will encourage people to respond (see others for examples). Start typing, or copy and paste your text from another source, proofread what you've written, check out the formatting and emoji options, and hit Submit at the bottom.

I just fixed the hyperlink in Forest's post, so at least you can go directly to creating a new thread, but I don't know what to do about the video :(

For anyone else spinning around trying to figure out why they see "insufficient privileges" on every page after signing up: You need to confirm your account using the account confirmation email you should've received.

Hi @Elsie,

You can post an introduction by starting a new thread on the Support Forum here: https://www.tmswiki.org/forum/forums/support-subforum.26/ (Support Subforum) At the top right hand side you'll see a small orange box to click on that says 'post thread'. When you click on that orange box you'll see the box you can type your introductory posting in plus another box in which you can type the title to your thread/introduction.

You can post an introduction by starting a new thread on the Support Forum here:
Just a little tweak to this advice for everyone else - a number of our first-time contributors join because their intro is also their Success Story. Others aren't specifically looking for support, but want to share a free resource or an update to our favorite resources, which is appropriate for General Discussion. So the first place to go is really the upper left menu bar (on a phone, the three lines) and click on Forums. Choose the appropriate subforum from the list (typically Support, General Discussion, or Success Stories), then follow the orange box on the right side!

Hi Jan, Its ok if you want to move it. Should it be in Support?

Should it be in Support?
This is what it says about the Support Subforum (in which you posted your introduction): "This subforum is about building community and supporting one another as we manage or recover from our TMS. If you would like help with your personal case, this is a great place. It is a also a great place to introduce yourself and tell your story when you first sign up."...

So, unless you wanted to post your introduction as also being a 'success story' (which would then make it more appropriate for the Success Stories Subforum) your introduction is currently in the designated place for introductions.

(The General Discussion Subforum is described thus: "Here you can find discussions about ideas, techniques, conditions, breaking news, and any other general topic relevant to all people with TMS. If you have general questions, please ask them here."... So the General Discussion Subforum is seemingly not intended for introductions.)

Not necessary, it's in the right place. The purpose of my comment was about the specificity of the instruction you received. I always assume that others will read any conversation, so I just wanted to clarify for the general readership that there are different subforum options, and a different route for finding them.
