New to the group and wondering if anyone in this forum is familiar with LPR. I’ve been suffering with this for over 3 years now and am starting to think it could be TMS. Any insight would be much appreciated. It’s been a very long dark journey for me and am desperately looking for answers.

    Hello @ArbyO,
Check out this thread, which discusses LPR (aka silent reflux) and might be helpful for you:

Here's a video from Dan Buglio--just start by watching one minute that is really powerful-- from 8:00 - 9:00:

I have had LPR as one of my symptoms of anxiety. It shows up very rarely now and at times can also be triggered by foods -however I knowing that is simply a behavioral pairing - an association the brain has made. Many of those food associations no longer trigger it. I occasionally get a horseness in my voice - the brain will try and offer symptoms where it will get your attention the most.

Thanks for your reply. Did anxiety meds help?

I am new to TMS and I am kind of desperate.

I also have LPR and GERD diagnosed kind of out of the blue after some sleepless nights in Sepetember even though I have never really experienced heartburn before. Now 3 months later I am kind of in a tailspin. Long story but my LPR is out of control, it hurts all the time. The only thing that seems to keep it back is chewing gum, I am kind of getting sick of chewing gum :(. It also seems like when my LPR flares up really bad after I eat I also get very flushed in my face and my joints start to pop. I am really worried that this is some sign of a larger chronic condition which I don't even want to know about :(

My question here is if I am chewing gum am I not giving fully to TMS by trying to keep the pain at bay? Also, any other suggestions to get this under control would be helpful.

Hey @JDubs - the best way to get help here is to introduce yourself on your own thread in the Support subforum. We need to know how much you know about TMS and Dr Sarno, and also, briefly, whether you have been medically checked out for your symptoms (see the medical disclaimer at the bottom of every page.)

This forum is devoted to the psychological mechanism that John Sarno MD called Tension Myositis Syndrome, and our discussions are limited to the emotional and stress causes of TMS. The best introductions from new folks spend very little time and detail on physical symptoms medical history - that's because we don't pay attention to those details here. We definitely need to get a general idea of where you're at regarding the knowledge. Plus, if you already have a sense of possible psychological reasons for your symptoms, we're definitely ready to pay attention to those!
