"Let go" - when do you know you've done this?

Hi TMS Community,

I have a simple but perplexing question...When do you know you've let go? I've been exploring my past for the last 15 months and there seems to be a fine line between self discovery and rumination. I have journaled, re-read old diaries and done talk therapy.

It has all been difficult but useful. I'm glad I did it but at what point do you know you've let go and you are ready to move on? I feel like I could dig infinitely. I know some people suggest you stay in the present, others suggest you explore the past.

Is there some magic letting go moment or do you just need to say it, trust that you will eventually feel it and move on?

Thx,

For me that moment came when I realised I had forgiven all those people (myself included), and even where I couldn't forgive the act, I could soften around the person involved. After this realisation there seemed nothing left to dig for. If anything the task became redemptive; what had I damned which was actually of value, where had I misjudged, what could I cherish. A finer sifting until there was nothing.

Sometimes it really helps to let time pass and consolidate, and then maybe revisit and review. I even feel nostalgic and somewhat tender towards things that were deeply wounding at the time.

We live. We grow. We move on.
It is the nature of life.

I would suggest that in asking this question that you are on the threshold of a healing shift.

Maybe for now, do nothing. Let things be.
