It's Time

Hello,

I started this program very recently and I’m getting stuck on the last exercise of Day 5.

The one where you have to write about a past event.

During my childhood, I experienced some significant events, and there are three in particular that come to mind — events that I know I’m going to have a very hard time writing about.

I’m wondering whether I may have completely repressed these events.

For these three events, I must have been between 5 and 10 years old.

Event 1:
My father’s brother died by suicide. I have no memory of it at all — I didn’t even go to the funeral. I wouldn’t be able to write more than one sentence about it because I have absolutely no memories of it.

Event 2:
Again, a suicide — my cousin on my mother’s side, who had schizophrenia. For this event, I have a few flashes of memory. I was probably a bit older. I think I could write a few lines about it, but not much more.

Event 3:
I was in the car with my mother and we passed a serious car accident on the opposite side of the road. I recognized my paternal grandparents’ car. My grandmother was badly injured and later ended up in a wheelchair. The firefighters and police were already there.

Again, I don’t have much to write apart from remembering myself saying to my mother, “That’s Grandpa’s car…”

The exercise asks us to spend 10–15 minutes on it and describe what we feel, which, at this point, I have absolutely no idea how to do.

I imagine I must have repressed all of this, buried very far and very deep in my mind.

But what am I supposed to do with all of this?

For events 1 and 2, I’d like to clarify that I did not witness them directly.
