I spent the entire morning working on my list of traumatic experiences. Shortly after lunch, I lay down and slept for about an hour. After I woke up, I suffered a severe migraine attack that nearly sent me to the emergency room. Armed with my understanding of TMS, I approached the attack—one I’ve experienced hundreds of times since childhood—differently. I had the thought that my intense engagement with my trauma list might have put my body under stress and perhaps also triggered old fears. After seven hours and with the help of medication, the attack was over. I’m just at the very beginning of my process and will try to allow myself more breaks. I’m not even close to where I want to be, but knowing that there’s a path others have walked before me gives me courage and motivates me all the more.
