Hi, I don't know what this is all about. I've never been on a forum before but my mom told me i should try and find people like me going through the effects of TMS so that i realize I'm not alone in this fight.
To introduce myself quickly, my name is Daisy and I'm 19 and last September i started uni in another country. I love university and all my friends there. But in December when i came home for Christmas the pain fell on me like a tone of bricks. It's like the stress i had accumulated finally hit but in the form of neck and back pain. I used to have a scoliosis so we decided it was probably that but after an x-ray it has been confirmed that I no longer have a scoliosis at all. The pain was making me stay up all night sobbing and clutching my neck, and during the day it could sometimes get so bad I couldn't even walk to the other side of the room. I also have dreadful health anxiety and germ anxiety that would stop me eating any more than a meal a day and I would often overthink my pains to the point of having panic attacks. So logically when i brought all this to the doctor she said to go on anti depressants, but i didn't listen because the thought of that seemed scary to me. However 6 months of therapy and doctors appointments in it seems like the only solution.
If anybody has been going through or has gone through something similar I'd love to know your story and if you have any advice that helped you.
Thank you for reading this xxx

    Hi, Daisy,

Welcome! You’re not alone in this fight at all. Anxiety goes hand-in-hand with TMS. That’s what we all are working on here. Your story is a pretty common one, so don’t fear.

There’s a free course on this website called the Structured Educational Program. It can teach you much of what you need to learn. It’s also recommended that you read a book by John Sarno, such as The Mindbody Prescription. Also, Hope and Help for Your Nerves, by Claire Weekes explains all about your anxiety. It’s a very helpful book, and it’s short.

It’s good you’ve been cleared by your doctor as having nothing wrong other than emotional mind/body issues. Anti-depressants might help you, but they won’t cure your TMS. For that, you’ll need to do the emotional work to heal.

    We’re here to support you!

Thank you so much for your help I will check all those links and books out. I was aware of John Sarno's work but I definitely should study it more.
Reading through all the stories on here has definitely made me feel heard and understood.

Welcome Daisy. Diana gave you a great starting point. Just wanted to say kudos to you for accepting this as a possibility at 19, indicates incredible innate intelligence and intuition. Seriously you should be proud of yourself!

I think starting with success stories is a great place to find hope, pain free you YouTube channel has a ton of them and Dan is a great person.

Thank you very much! I mean it was mostly my mom who did the necessary research but it's been useful coming to terms with it and reading other peoples stories because a lot of people on here seem to have had similar experiences to me.

I will definitely also be checking out the YouTube channel you mentioned.
    Thank you!
