The Court-Martial of the Body
A Trial of Fear in Six Charges
Fifty years. That's how long Boiler Technician TJ carried the pain—and how long he believed his body had betrayed him.

One night he falls asleep and wakes in his dress whites, walled into a cell of bricks, his body on trial before a Navy court-martial. One by one, the doctors who frightened him across fifty years are called to answer—while a witty, bruise-colored demon defends them all.

About the Book
The Court-Martial of the Body is a short illustrated novella: part courtroom drama, part pain-science parable, part spiritual self-reckoning. It dramatizes a real, hopeful idea—that much chronic pain is a learned false alarm of the nervous system, not ongoing damage—as fiction, with a demon for a defense lawyer and an admiral for a conscience.

What You Get:
  • Format: A ~65-page illustrated PDF featuring charcoal courtroom plates and a final color image.

  • Length: ~16,000 words, perfect for a single-sitting read.

  • The Coda: A philosophical grounding tailored for both religious and secular readers alike.

  • Mind-Body Guide: A thoroughly sourced guide to the modern mind-body and TMS (Tension Myositis Syndrome) literature.

  • The Casebuilder: A practical companion workbook designed to help you convene your own court-martial and dissect the "bricks" of your own chronic pain.
⚠️ Important Medical Safety Notice

This book is a work of fiction and satire, not medical advice. Your pain is real. You must see a licensed doctor and rule out serious disease first—especially for any "red flag" or alarming symptoms.

Seek prompt medical evaluation if you experience:

  • New or worsening weakness or numbness

  • Loss of bladder or bowel control

  • Unexplained weight loss or fever

  • Pain that wakes you up at night

  • Pain immediately following a fall or physical trauma
The mind-body argument presented here is offered strictly as theory and context. It is never a substitute for professional medical care.

Thank you Tony!
Congratulations on producing such a polished and insightful description of your journey. Its quite an amazing and inspiring success story.
Things I liked (not in order or preference), the graphics because they helped me get into the story (turning it into a graphic novel would be awesome!). The text in italics helped me situate how to approach the content and what you were trying to do by sharing it. Appendix A is fabulous. The Coda was deeply impactful.
I had difficulty with some of the Navy specific contextualization which meant i had to put in effort to process what i was reading as it was unfamiliar to me. Perhaps because I’m a big fan of the 42-day SEP Appendix B was more of an outline to understand and appreciate the structure of the dream.

Thanks, yes it was a personal effort and I was in the navy so I think a court-martial held by a respected admiral would. help me accept the verdict. What I think might be helpful is for you to write your own story with an accepted authority figure (science, God, some trusted doctor) and your own suspects which i'm sure are very different from mine. While I have lots of anger for me fear (and fear of anger) seems to be my primary driver.

Maybe I could have AI change it to be less "navy" lol
If you care to share a few of your criminals and your authority figures, defense, prosecution I could make a version for you. of course lot of that sort of thing is very personal so you would probaby want to throw some curveballs. I'm writing under a pseudonm, for example.
