Free Addons

Beloved Grand Eagle
@JanAtheCPA, I subscribed to the following site for XenForo addons:
The guy who wrote them, AndyB, is a great guy, and I wanted to support him. We can download any of his addons and use them forever. However, it's always prudent to restrict the number of addons one uses, so we must be judicious.

I think I brought it up with you before. If you want to suggest any addons to try, feel free to propose them (same goes for anyone else, but this is in the weeds, so it may only be of interest to Jan). I don't know if we'll find any, but it's nice to hear other people's ideas.

(This thread doesn't quite fit in the idea of a "bug tracker" subforum, but it's pretty technical, so I thought this would be the best place.)

Here's one, which you might already have implemented after the massive spam attack last year:
Limits the number of new threads, posts, conversations and conversation messages.
This add-on can be used to prevent a spammer from creating thousands of messages in a short amount of time.

Hmm, what do we think of this one - might help cut back on repetitive threads? (Including duplicate ones that are sometimes posted by newbies in different subforums...)
Shows a list of similar threads when posting or viewing a thread.
The Similar threads add-on will do the following:

  • Show a list of similar threads when a user is creating a new thread.
  • Show a list of similar threads when a user is viewing a thread.

This one would be on my wish list, but it's not going to be to everyone's liking. It could actually help to figure out where people are at when they land here - it would definitely deal with the problem of random internet searchers who request "how are you now?" responses from the OPs of really old threads - if they had to introduce themselves, they might get a clue of what we're for and how we operate. Not sure how it would work logistically for other users, however...
Requires first post to be an introduction thread.
