It is a bit tongue-in-cheek, but it might be helpful to those who doubt their physical symptoms of TMS. My latest blog post is written for those with CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome), but it equally applies to other conditions. Keep in mind that I deliberately don't use the acronym TMS because it is not as well-known to the wider audience for whom the blog is written. Instead, I use the term mind-body. Check it out:

Hah! Nice collection of stress-based idioms, Tamara! You know, as I read books and watch shows and movies, I'm hyper-aware of how often characters are presented reacting to stress and strong emotions with physical symptoms and, often, a physical crisis of some sort from ignoring the stress. This knowledge is truly baked in to the cultural zeitgeist, and it's absolutely not new at all.

I see this stuff all the time - from the recent sad story of Hayden Panitierre (sp) to Tim Mcgraw (3-4 back surgeries and both knees replaced already at only 59).

Mcgraw's story in particular is interesting to me because it appears most of his symptoms hit in his mid 50's, and he lost his father (famous MLB player Tug Mcgraw) at 54 years old. Alot to analyze there in my view.

Yep. Some years back, we had a discussion about Celine Dion. We unanimously concluded that she had TMS. No wonder, as her life was full of hardship and trauma.

I saw a few interviews with Celine. I watched her eventually put the pieces together and recognize the stress and mind/body component as she was beginning to heal. I hope she is doing well.

Today, watching a video of the Straycats, I was reminded that their lead singer Brian Setzer also struggles with TMS. After a bit of a relapse they are back out on tour and he looks great!
