Hi, Kathryn. Dr. Sarno says TMS is from repressed emotions that he calls "anger." I never thought I was holding anger in myself, but learned through journaling in SEP that I was repressing feelings of abandonment and insecurity when my parents divorced when I was seven years old. It led me to understand them better and that led to me forgiving them. That healed my severe back pain.
So I suggest you not think that anger is causing you pain, but something emotional is.
Try not to monitor any pain. Just accept it as part of healing and get on with your life. Try to enjoy it. Live in the present moment, not the past or future. Unless thoughts of the future are wonderful, and they should be. Always positive.
Welcome to SEP and this web site. You have found a lot of new and helpful and caring friends here.
